Hello all,

I have one of the above GPU's, it was working fine till now as only one of the two fans are working on it. any idea's on a fix or what could be wrong? I was thinking about putting a AIO water cooler on it before this happened, so I may go down that route if so is there any good AIO to use?

The GPU is working ok, tho I'm only on desktop atm, I didnt want to push it in game incase it gets too hot.
 
Could just be it's worn out - I had a couple of 7870's in my PC recently and on one of them only one fan worked and on the other they only kicked in when you put it above 80%.

I bought some replacements from AliExpress and fitted them and they now work as expected. Your card is somewhat newer than my 7870's were though. Any warranty left?

I think it does, it is about a year old give or take a couple of months. I didnt really wanna go down the route of RMA tho.

Maybe needing a clean - dust in the fans could cause them to stick? Do they kick in if you turn them up to 100% or give them a nudge?

not doing anything at 100%, I'll open up the Pc tomorrow for a clean and update the thread. :D

As said dust them out
And try to spin with your finger to see if it's spins freely
And push on the centre of the fan
I had one years ago that every now and then I had to push the centre of the fan
And it would work properly for months afterwards
 
Quick update,

The fan got cleaned out tho it did spin freely I normally clean out the PC once every couple of months, BUT I did try pressing in the fan from the middle and low and behold it now works! whats the reason for that a small press and its sorted :S

Many thanks for the ppl that responded tho and helped me with this, it's saved me a little bit of cash and an un-needed RMA.

It may just be the fan moves down the spindle a bit pushing the centre clicks
It back up presumably
First noticed it may help years ago when I had something or other where the blades
Were removable for cleaning
So tried it on non removable one
And it helped :):)
 
Quick update,

My GPU was getting rather toastie last night so I opened up the case and the second fan wasnt spinning again. So I turned off the PC and let it cool down, once it had I turned it on and both fans was spinning again, untill it got to a certain temp then the second fan stopped, any ideas on this?
