Childhood Holidays

We had friends who moved to Wales (NOT RHYL!!) when i was a kid, and we'd spend every other weekend there, it was awesome, get home from school on the friday, jump into the Capri (or ford orion or cartina, or whatever car my parents had at the time), drive the 87 miles from Manchester to Dwgyfylchi (which seemed ages away at the time) and it was right near the beach, had romances, long walks in the woods and to the beach etc, cinema in Llandudno, awesome bbq's, it was great!

I used to be really bad with travel sickness when I was little.

My mum took us to Spain three times on the bus, the absolute cow!

The holidays were brilliant though once we got there.

Butlins or Pontins for a week of all inclusive working class fun.
This is what we did - We always did Pontins and had great times, including every year we'd go to the camp at Blackpool in October for an out of season break and had a lot of fun. We carried on the tradition with our own kids and have had many happy family holidays like that. We were at the Blackpool Pontins when they announced it was going to close and six weeks later, that was it, it had shut down. I think that was the last family holiday to Pontins that we ever had.

I always used to go to Butlins and other parks when i was a kid and loved them, so when we were able to take my own I jumped at the chance. They loved the caravans, the arcades, the cheesy cabaret. Last October we went to Butlins and it was everything I wanted it to be. The free funfair, the pool with water slides, whirlpools and rapids. The entertainment, Jeff Dingle as a superb Bruno Mars. Cost a fortune in 2p coins but damn it was worth it.

Summer holidays must have been hell for my youngest sister - she suffered travel sickness really bad - those wrist band things seemed to work for her but it took about 3 years to find that out. My parents did like driving long distances to places to go on holiday to and driving a lot when we got there as well and usually moving on after a week.

EDIT: Funny thing is how many people say those things are a scam/sham/no science but you can't fake the difference between her projectile vomiting at least once and sometimes 2-3 times on a long drive and happily sitting there not being sick at all.

It was the era, it honestly won’t be the same now.

But your kids will have their own set of experiences and memories that to them might be just as important.

This tbh. It won't be the same at all, but it just means you make your own memories! Doesn't mean you can't take them to places in France camping though. We have been to some beautiful places. I'm not a fan of camp sites personally, but the kids like them if we go with friends etc.

I love travelling with the kids. We've had some amazing adventures around different countries I don't think they'll forget.
