Basically I have not long built a SFF pc with a x570 i aorus pro wifi pcie 4.0 M/board

its a Wifi 6 board, my pc is up in the bedroom, and connecting to my virgin broadband router via wifi,

it dawned on me today that there may actually be wifi 6 routers about! obviously there are,

i been looking at the tp link ones mainly the AX11000/6000/3000

i haven't checked any other makes specifically as there are a mish mash of problem reviews, and although the tp routers seem to be middle of the road come performance, they seem to be the most stable,

but any advice welcome, i really want the cheapest option but the best performance i can get with my pc connected to it, as i game/use my oculus quest thru it as well

Wait until Virgin upgrade their hubs to Wi-Fi 6 or it becomes more common. The major advantage to Wi-Fi 6 is how it handles high density deployments (lots of clients connected, all moving traffic around). If you're upgrading just to get better performance on a couple of devices where your wireless performance is already higher than is required for the applications you use (e.g. faster than your Internet connection and you don't do any peer-to-peer stuff within your LAN) then I wouldn't bother. If you want the ultimate in performance for your PC upstairs then take the money you would have spent on Wi-Fi 6 and run a cable.

thanks sometimes common sense prevails! he he,

the other thing in the mix is BT fibre 900 is being installed in July, there is currently a cable in my pc room where a 2nd virgin tivo/v6 box was installed previously, so if BT fibre 900 is successful(and virgin contract terminated) i was then going to replace that cable with an Ethernet one,
obviously a lot of ifs/buts. so hence thought about a wifi 6 router in the mean time, but think your right, just wait,

If you getting 900mb then cable is the only way to go.

why not get BT to terminate the master socket in the room where the PC is? Will certainly save some hassle.

its a fair point, my only problem is in the living room, is where the apple 4k tv box is. not sure how it will stand going over wifi! streaming 4K, guess i could trial it, but obviously the virgin router is right next to it, so that could be a false positive, its the only piece of equipment along with the pc that i'd prefer connected directly,

That should be fine, most smart TVs and Apple TV’s etc. are connected via WiFi.

Web video is heavily compressed, you can stream it on a 25mb connection assuming you aren’t doing anything else. That’s easily achievable on WiFi.

well can only try! if it fails guess i can run a cable down stairs if need be, i might even give it a go to get an Ethernet cable run in from downstairs up to the pc room, ive got 8 weeks till its installed, then i can choose either way,
