How to make an outdoor work bench.

Yeah exactly that, it can cut a 210mm board with 55mm depth in one cut. one I linked for example is 300x80

I think I will get the materia...try to cut 1 piece...then see if I can be bother with that and how well that goes before spending £150 (double my current basket cost of materials)

Yeah as I said earlier on for 1 personal project I wouldn't justify it. However if you know you're going to be working on a few more projects in the future it will be worth it for sure, same with the sander mentioned originally, its only worth getting one if you intend to use it for several projects.

It will be an investment if I use it, or a waste of money if I don't. Although not too much considering off my head I think I will need to make about 30 cuts by hand. If budget for 5mins each that will be 3 hours of solid cutting. I suspect the mitre saw will cut that to about 10mins

Bought my mitre saw a few years ago and it’s been great. I might only use it for 3-4 jobs a year but every time I have it’s saved me hours. I have one of those evolution sliding saws similar to those linked above. No reason it shouldn’t last over a decade with my use, bargain IMO.

Where you need to make the same cuts you can typically cut more than once piece of wood at the same time once you get used to it (e.g. stacking decking boards or 2x4 side by side) and go even faster.

That’s what I am thinking too, I can cut 2 pieces of decking in one go, not only to save time but also making things neater as they will line up more.

Exactly, I would recommend getting a cheap pair safety glasses when you pick up the saw from screwfix. They start at around £1-£2.

I would think using decking screws would be perfect for this, you can drove them straight in so no need to drill pilot holes and they will suitable for outdoor use.

I actually have a pair of safety goggles and N95 masks (thanks Covid)!

I will need to look into screws, I think the top for the decking I can use decking screws, for the side where the legs are I want to use coach screws for more stability. I have the drill bits so don’t mind counter sunk all of them to make it neater.

you could hire a portable plunge saw with table, for the weekend ...did you conside any kind of metal/stainless legs/tressles

edit: still in my history https://www.hirestation.co.uk/tool-hire/Woodworking/Table-Saw-Hire/350005/

No, but on principle I dislike renting stuff. I know it is cheaper but £150 will be a lifetime of use in my case. £100 difference for something to keep is not that bad.

What is in my basket so far, I am partly restricted to "Home Delivery" filter. Ideally a 22mm thick plank will do for the side surround panels to hold it all together but only the 38mm are being delivered at the moment. The price for everything is a little higher than I expected actually!

I might call up a local timber merchant and see how much they can do the same kind of wood for.

You can certainly save money.

Regular CLS timber is about £3 a length and given you’re painting it will be just as good. You could also use it for the legs rather than that fence post. So you’d be saving around £50 there.

There not, those are just particularly expensive ones.

Even less if you go with coasted steal instead of stainless which will be fine for what you need.

The regular stainless screws will need pilot holes drilling to stop the wood splitting. The threads are coarser on decking screws designed to be put straight in.

Ah I dont know anyone that way, youll likely find a local timber merchant will have much better quality timber.

There is a place round the corner from my house, so close I can probably carry it home on foot. It's about 5 min walk away! Problem is I don't think they are open right now.

My usual is doing trade only but Im friends with someone who runs one of the branches so im fortunate, you'll probably find they will open tomorrow so maybe hold fire if you're not in a rush.

I am not in a hurry, I will need to double check my measurements before ordering anything. There are a few things that is certain which i will order this week, like the gloves, clamp and the screws. Those are relatively cheap and will be used no matter the project.

I will probably get the wood after pay day.
