Not for me but a friend, he is chopping in his clio and has about 12k to spend. Im struggling for suggestions. Only requirements are, he has a big dog so needs back seat/boot space for it, its not used for regular commuting but when it is used, it is used for 3 month periods with a site that can be almost anywhere in the UK, last time it was doing a 120 mile round trip per day so Im leaning towards a diesel suggestion purely as when it will be used it will be motorway miles.

What would motors recommend?
 
I would be considering a estate or a SUV, but more an estate. There loads within that price range. Would he be more interested in MPG or BHP?
 
I had a diesel Mondeo Titanium X for my last company car - if you get the hatchback version there will be plentiful space for a dog.

Was reasonably decent power wise, and could see 60mpg on a motorway run.

Good on interior comfort and equipment too (Android Auto, heated leather electric seats, part LCD dash etc).

I'm sure one of these would be in range of 12k.

Only thing is - compared to a Clio it's a barge, so your friend would need to make sure ok with the size.
