Which new graphics card?

I writing believe everything you read, I've had no issues with my 5700XT. Conversely I've read about many 2080Ti owners with borked cards, one guy on here has had to return a card four times. There's s lot of luck involved and a fair dose of user error. Someone else was having stuttering issues with a 5700XT, turns out he was overclocking it too far and it was getting too hot.

I had an MSI 1070 Gaming X before my 5700XT and to be fair if you didn't look inside the case you wouldn't know, other than the newer card obviously being faster.
Cant say for 5700XT, only the previous ati cards i have owned and my experiences.
I’m sure the hardware is fine but seems there are still driver issues.
There are driver issues with nvidia too, but less from my experience

Budget? If you don’t mind 2nd hand i pickup up an evga 2080ti off ebay with almost 3 years warranty for £825.

I have similar setup to you, i7 [email protected], 16gb ram.

I play at 3440x1440 but everything flies when i’ve tried it at 1080p

I would ignore ati cards until their sort their crap drivers. It sounds like they are still as shocking as they were in the late 90s and ~2006 when i owned ati gpu’s. Going X1900XT to 8800GT was a wise choice of mine
That's a lot of cash to drop on a used card with resale value likely to plummet in a few months when ampere releases.

‘A lot of cash’ is subjective. A lot of cash to some people is £30, others it’s £3000.
OP could be a millionaire for all we know.

We’ll see what happens in a few months but i doubt Nvidia will release the 3000 range for peanuts as this would cripple the sales of the 2000 cards.
I’ll go out on a limb and say i could sell my 2080Ti in 6 months for the same price as I paid for it a month ago

I may be wrong but haven't Nvidia cards previously suffered a catastrophic drop in value after a new generation launched?

Prices have dropped but that’s the same as all technology really. I wouldnt say catastrophic but I never buy new.
GPU wise for the past ~10 years I have bought 2nd hand when the item is a year or two old, then sell after maybe 2 years use.
My 1080Ti I bought in February 2018 for £650. I sold it recently for £460 to part fund the 2080Ti for £825. If I get £600 for it in 2022 and it’s cost £100 a year then its been a good purchase.
It’s been a similar story with my 780ti and 980ti, granted slightly lower prices of each

Not a bad policy. I'm always a bit cautious with GPUs as they are the component that seems most prone to going pop. The one advantage with Nvidia is there always seems to be someone prepared to pay silly money for second hand cards. My 7970s aged very well but I wouldn't be surprised to find worse performing Nvidia cards of the time sold for more despite aging more quickly.

I’ve bought EVGA for the warranty since the 780Ti. I’ve had a couple if returns. One 780 and one 980. No issues with EVGA, even with them being 2nd hand

Well, hmm'd and hahh'd while going through forums and new prices and decided to go for a new 5700XT, arriving today. I can have a good play and always return to Amazon in a few days if it just doesn't function as I want.

Thanks for all your input, now just have to research which software and drivers I should install!

Install the latest ones, the last 2 or 3 are fine. The 4 or 5 before that had issues.

Tried latest and world war z is not happy with crashes, dropped back to WHQL version and its generally okay witht hat, but can crash coming out of the game, or occasionally in game after an hour or two, but not regularly.

Wondering if I should try a slightly earlier version, need to goole and find a download though..

I am on 20.4.2
