PC Turning Itself Off - Overheating

psu fan will intake from the base will it not and exhaust out rear?

at least all psu I have will do it that way unless you reversed the fan in them....

There's one way to know for sure, let's wait for the OP to confirm whether the diagram is correct for this particular case. I know you are right in normal circumstances.

lol...a case isn't going to change the direction of airflow through his psu :)

Would be daft too as then intake for psu would be at rear where its warm from case exhaust.....

That was the point I was making about warm air. Just goes to show, don't trust images!

Case is a new CIT Blitz which is pretty open and has two 120mm extraction fans one out of the top directly above the cpu and one high up out of the back. Zero dust/debris.

That's most likely your problem as there is no airflow into the case. That looks to be a pretty terrible case for cooling. Perhaps if they paid less attention to bling and more on airflow it would be much better. There is little point in putting 3x 120mm fan positions at the front and then putting a solid front on the case starving them of air. That case is little more than a blinged up hotbox.

Most, if not all psu's these days suck air in through the fan and exhaust out the rear. The exception are some SFF units that still have rear fans but they work the same way and exhaust through the fan out of the rear grill.

There are cutouts (very subtle) at the top and bottom of the front of the case. There certainly are on mine anyway.

I think @pastymuncher may be on to something. Last night I took the perspex side panel off and the cpu never got above 85 degrees.

I have some fans I will add to the case to try and improve air flow. Failing that I may need to get my drill out...

That was a good test, I think your going to need to drill some holes through the perspex to make a vent and fan mount.

All, quick update.

Replaced my cpu cooler and added a couple of 120mm fans to stuck air into the front of the case and all is good. A two hour gaming session resulted in a max temp of 83 an average of 64. Maybe still a little hot but I haven't got my drill out yet!

Thanks for your help @DJai, @pastymuncher, @postmanfw and @Minibiker!

That's good to hear, what temperature at idle out of interest? I'm having issues with temperatures myself.

For info, I think normal ranges are between 35-55 degrees.

We'll see what others think.

Idling never got above 50 last night. I think the 50 spike was me opening Steam.

Sounds good to me, carry on like that if you like or mod it with more ventilation if you want it cooler and feel like getting your hands dirty!

Very tempted to get my drill out. Not sure whether lots of little holes or one big one would be better. I would glue a grill over it either way.

I'll take the side panel off to see how much cooler that makes it before jumping in.
