4k External Monitor Looks Terrible on 2019 Macbook Pro

Hi all,

After getting fed up of messing around with my 10 year old computer, I decided to get something new. I got the 16" Macbook Pro and so far so good until I plugged it into the TV I have been using as a monitor for the past couple of years. The TV is a 43" Samsung capable of 4K, 4:4:4 at 60Hz and I have been using this on my computer both on Windows and Ubuntu flawlessly through this time, it was snappy (not amazing) and looked great - even with scaling.

The initial problem was it wouldn't display at 60Hz, however after upgrading the TV software, that started working. Now, everything still feels sluggish (much better now at 60Hz) and the image quality is horrendous, so blurry and strange colours at borders. Black text on light backgrounds has strange ghosting far from the characters. All in all it's driving me crazy and I'm finding it almost unusable which is obviously unacceptable on a four grand computer. I'm using a HDMI 2.0 cable and a USB C to HDMI adapter capable of 4k 60Hz.

Does anyone have idea if and what I'm doing wrong? Are there any tutorials or pointers people can share?

Thank you. After over an hour going through the settings I found nothing... until I used the 'smart' remote which gives access to some extra bits such as selecting an 'icon' for my device inputs. Setting the icon to PC does more than change the image I think... All is well now.

Yeah, it should change aspect ratio as indicated - glad you got it sorted
