Which GPU as a stop-gap for 1440p gaming until Q4 new gen releases?

Hi guys. I need a stop-gap GPU to last me until Q4 when the new cards are released. I need a card that allows 1440p High/Ultra detail gaming in mostly not too demanding games like Total War Warhammer, Bannerlord Skyrim (fully modded) and and Witcher 3 etc.

What would be a good solution? I was thinking of new or used options:
  • New: 1660Ti (I actually meant Super, sorry)
  • Used: RTX 2060?
Any thoughts please? I live outside of the UK so can't really use MM.:)

Don't overlook the 5700XT option, I see a lot of people opting for them as a solid filler for 1440P gaming, the non-XT variants can also be flashed I beleive to near XT performance though I suspect this depends heavily on the card itself.
 
5600XT which is same price as 1660Ti but a fair bit quicker.

Stop gap cheap card then get a 1660Super (not quite as fast as 5600xt however).

Should be plenty enough for 60fps on those games with high to ultra settings.
 
The 5600xt fits perfectly, same price as the 1660ti yet 20% faster. It's also slightly faster than the 2060.

As said above for a cheaper option I would be going 1660 super over the ti as it's a good chunk cheaper than the ti but only a few percent slower. The ti is just out matched by the 5600xt to be looked at as an option for the same price.

Thanks guys. Hmm, the cheapest pricing where I live is as follows:

1660 Super = £195
5600XT = £262
5700XT = £332

So a 5600XT is actually 25% more expensive than the 1660 Super...
 
The 5600xt is around 25% faster as well so it would be up to you if you wanted to spend for the performance. The 5700 is a good chunk more for not much more performance and as a stop gap dont really make much sense.

Pros of the 5700 is it can be flashed to 5700xt performance. Personally if it's just a card to fill in the 1660 super or 5600xt would do you fine in the games you listed.

Ok thanks to you and everyone for the advice, I think in the end I will go for a 1660 Super then if I buy new, as it seems like it will do the job at least as wlel as my old mobile GTX 1070. Otherwise, I will scour some local PC forums for a good deal. :)
 
1660 super. Decent nvidia option imo for the money 5600xt if you want better performance with AMD but as much as, I love AMD. I can't help but loath thier gpu drivers. Choice is yours.

At £110 not bad.

Not particularly fast but it depends on what you want. Should do 1440p 60hz all be it with lower settings.

The 1660S is 2x the price but its also 2x the performance by the looks of things.

Hah a Polaris pool would be lovely, unfortunately there is no OCUK market where I live and used prices in general are rip offs as a result. Ahh well, I shall either go for the 1650 and play older RTS or go for a 1660Ti for some more money. Cheers for the feedback chap. :)
 
Good and detailed benchmarks of the 3300x powering a range of CPU's. Basically, only a 2080Ti is really CPU limited by the 3300x to the tune of 20% or so. But then, no-one is going to have a 3300x with a 2080Ti.


Verdict: For gaming you will not be significantly CPU limited in the majority of situations and it punches well above its weight compared to previous generations. This CPU makes an awesome budget gaming rig especially if your kid is looking to build their first gaming PC and you can stick in a used GPU of 1070GTX class for cheap. :)
 
I'm also looking to get a 1660 super but there's so many, what's the best make to go for at the moment?
