Hi guys

I am building a new pc. I am thinking to go for a b450 tomahawk max mobo and pair it with a ryzen 5 3600 or perhaps even a ryzen 7 3700x. I am going to use this pc for gaming.

I was going to go for a 2060 super but was told to go for a amd 5700 xt instead.

I have heard to stay clear from amd cards since they have driver issues and some other issues but read somewhere that the latest driver has fixed all these issues and now is a good time to purchase this card.

I don't know which variant to go for however since there is so many, can someone advise me on if i shoud indeed go for this card or avoid, and can point me in the right direction for the appropriate card.

I have been told to go for this one but the gentleman told me to ask here before purchasing...

RADEON RX 5700 XT RED DEVIL 8GB GDDR6 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD

(EDIT - I am proably going to go for this one -

RADEON RX 5700 XT GAMING GIGABYTE OC 8GB GDDR6 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD) - the other in mind is the sapphire which I heard is also good.

Would you guys reccomend this one? (Gigabyte)

Thanks a lot guys

I'm using the same graphics card and tomahawk max and Ryzen 3600 and it flies in games at 1440p. Only bother i had was my card died on me and refused to display anything. I RMA'D back to ocuk and a month later i received a new one and so far so good. Maybes I was just unlucky I don't know as the card has a good rep. If i was to buy again id probably go Sapphire as I like their products. Driver wise fine no probs.

Thanks so much for that info Jimbo, really appreciate you helping me out. Are you using the stock cooler or a aftermarket one? - I am not sure if I read that the 3600 stock cooler is great or if its the 3700x (or both)

Also which ram do you currently have?

Thanks once again for putting your time and effort to reply to me.

if you're gaming only, it may be better to get a 3300XT CPU and a better cooling colution, then upgrade to ryzen 4 when your CPU starts to become the bottleneck. The better cooler will transfer over fine because it'll stay on the same board.

Does the 3700x come with the Prism?
Yes. 3600 comes with the relatively poor Stealth cooler. 3600X comes with the better Wraith Spire.

Edit to add, if you’re buying another cooler for your 3600 don’t spend the £30-40 on a Wraith Spire or Prism. There are far better options for £40 than those two. They’re acceptable to use if you get them with your CPU but I wouldn’t buy one outright.

Thanks so much.

So, I could get the 3600 and have to buy a better aftermarket fan, which would probably put the cost near the 3700x anyways which comes with the better cooler. I might as well go for the 3700x then? - Thanks so much Misschief.

3600 is the value proposition at the moment but yes by the time you add on a cooler you’re nearly at 3700 prices. However, sell the Prism for £40 or so and put that money to a good AIO IMO.
