How come this has never became a thing the same way mobiles have

you pay nothing upfront or a low amount and get a console and xbox games pass of playstation equivilant for 24 months for a monthly fee..................

It could be a good thing for Sony/Microsoft to offer an all in one package for a single monthly fee. They would sell a lot more I think if they did that.

Microsoft have done this for years already. Admittedly it is restricted to the US but they have a lot of data on whether it works well or not.

Yeah it would but good to introduce the kids to managing debt and monthly repayments nice and early. Miss a few payments and the bad man will come and take your console away.

All Access isn't the worst deal in the world. It's basically just an Xbox on a 0% finance deal, plus Game Pass Ultimate at £10.99/month.

Easy enough to beat that (Game Pass, in particular, can be had for a lot less than £10.99/month with some legwork). But for the sort that just walk in to Game and pay whatever the going rate is, the costs are broadly similar.

When you're selling over 110 million units over a generation lifetime, you probably don't need to find new ways to entice customers in :)

Said an unnamed Nokia executive around 2006 :p

The PS3 sold a little over half the units the PS2 sold. The Wii U sold 13% of the units the Wii sold, and was overtaken by the Switch within months of launch. Nobody can ever afford to be complacent. The next disaster is always just around the corner.

That same arrogance didn’t do Nintendo any favours going from the Wii to the Wii U.

101 million down to 13 million units sold!
