Hi, please forgive my lack of knowledge regarding anything computer related

Is it worth trying to upgrade my office computer for my son to play Rainbow 6 Seige at (he tells me) medium to high level, he currently plays on xbox1s ?

Inspiron 3847 bought new 2015
Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
1TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 705
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz (4GBx2)

I have a 60hz Dell 24" widescreen monitor he could have. He has a gaming keyboard and mouse.

I would treat myself to a basic small form factor office computer replacement :)

Or should I just bite the bullet and buy him a new set up? Some of the deals between £500 and £900 for a prebuilt seem to get good reviews?

Thanks for any advice.

You could put a new gpu in but it's likely you'd need a new it PSU. Ideally want a SSD and extra 8gb ram at which point you're probably just better off starting again.

You can get better spec for your money building yourself or are you only interested in prebuilts?

is about the best you will get without requiring extra pci-e power.

Would you be building or ordering a prebuilt for him? Obviously you get far more for your cash by self building

So a quick search for parts - psu, ssd, ram and the graphics card recommended by Charlatan comes to about £400.

We could have a go at building one ourselves. We will have a look through the 'spec me a gaming computer' threads and see what we can get for £500 to £800?

Thanks for your help.

Rainbow six siege can play pretty good on a 1050 Ti can't it? Check it out first, but I wouldn't bother with anything except the GPU, cos otherwise you're looking at a total overhaul. I hate the 1650 because it's such awful value compared to the super, a cheap second hand 1050 Ti or RX 560 (with no PCI-e) would be my pick, but they're not easy to find and at £120-£130 new are not good value. They're both starting to creak at 1080p too. The entry-level market desperately needs a refresh.

Exactly why I went for a 1650. 1650 super much better, but needs pcie power. 1050ti same price as the vastly superior 1650
