Cheapest way to stream PC games to TV? Via an Xbox 1?

I've got a little Gigabyte Brix attached to the TV and tried to stream games from my desktop to the TV using it. It was a fairly unpleasant experience and the picture quality is terrible.

It might be that I need to do some tweaking - change the res (my PC is 1440, and our TV is just HD), and I think V-sync needs to be off, so I'll have a p;lay around.

That said, it seems like it might be worth trying a different machine hooked up to the TV.

I was looking around for small cheap secondhand PC builds, but then I noticed that the Xbox One is supposed to have the functionality to do it.

These seem cheap to pick up - cheaper than PCs anyway - and would come with the extra functionality Xbox 1's have.

So does anyone do this? Or does anyone have any better ideas?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Nvidia shield or the valve thingy that I forget.

How close is the TV to the PC? Longer HDMI lead would work aloing with wireless mouse and keyboard if they're not too far away.

I've got a Steam Link which worked fine when I used to use it. I dug it out the other week, and it loaded fine, then said it had to update, and promptly bricked itself.

Unfortunately the TV is a bit too far away from the PC for your other suggestion.

A Shield is a good idea - but not much difference in price to an xbox, which seems to have more other functionality.
