i understand the m.2 is slower than a m.2 nvme and they both have different connectors
but will my tomahawk max board fit either type ?? im confused

thank you in advanced for you advise and time

NVMe is the one, M.2 is just the size, if you don't get NVMe then the speed is no different than a normal SSD (not that you'd be able to tell much difference outside of benchmark tests)

They will both work, but given the small cost difference between a SATA based M.2 drive, and one that uses the NVMe protocol, then NVMe is a more sensible option looking forward.

You should be looking to pay ~£100-120 for a 960GB-1TB M.2 NVMe drive. An example of a good value, mid-range drive is the Western Digital Blue SN550 1 TB.

I watched a review on NVMe drives, the difference between speeds at the high end of the price structure and the low was so small that the normal person will never notice the difference.
Buy a drive that gives the best warranty and after care service thats worth a lot more than a few milliseconds.

You don't really save anything by going with a SATA SSD so might as well go NVMe even if the difference is small. Drives like the Crucial P1/P2 and 660p etc are usually the same sort of price as a SATA SSD.
