Hi guys, I already have a roof box, I had bars on my old car, but they don't fit my current Volvo S60 2013.

Looking at Halfords website, the bars, the "foot pack" and fitting kit comes to £180!!!

Anyone know of alternatives? I dont like Halfords at the best of times.

Ebay or local Facebook marketplaces - plenty of people often shift roof bars separately e.g. when they've changed cars

We've had several sets of Cruz bars from Roofbox.co.uk as the wife changes her car regularly. Not the most attractive (but what roofbars are?) however they are sturdy and do the job perfectly well. Ours have carried a Thule Atlantis 200 with no issue.

About £80.

Yea nice one thank you might be a winner. To be honest it's only for when we go in holiday in August the Mrs would actually pack the kitchen sink if she could.

Me roof box is ugly anyway so I don't care, plus they'll only get used probably once a year. Thanks for that.

No problem, I've found them great to deal with too by the way.

A couple of times when we've swapped cars they've worked out a way we could use some of our old bars with new fitting kits/foot packs, even though they weren't a recommended "package" for that car.

I've had a couple of sets of Cruz bars and they have been fine but I'll only buy Atera bars now. The fitting systems and quality are better enough for me to justify the extra cost. Whatever you do don't go for cheap unbranded (or brands you don't recognise) bars though. I was tempted by a set of £30 "Streetwise" bars for a temporary company car and I might as well have just thrown £30 in the bin, I wouldn't even sell them second hand they were that bad!

It is well worth checking local selling groups though, you can often find branded bars at half price if you are lucky.

Well funnily enough after all that, I tried my old Halfords bars, the bars themselves were just wide enough and the "foot packs" are actually a really nice fit, the metal clamps that go between the door and roof of the car were not and the doors wouldn't close.

However I managed to put the metal clamps in a heavy metal vice I have and bent them back to change the angle on the clamp and they more or less fit now. I reckon a bit of sponge cloth in-between those and the body work and should be ok.

Bit of a thread revival.

I did a couple of trips with the existing roof bars that I bent into shape, and to be fair, everything stayed on, but they really didn't fit that well and pushing my luck a bit.

I decided to go for a set from roofbox as recommended above the "cruz" bar set, was only about £85, just test fitted them today and they fit really well on my Volvo, far better than the previous ones.

I had cruz atera fix from roofbox.

Fitting was okay, a little bit fiddly just because there's a decent number of steps to go through in fitting the feet to the hidden bolt holes on an old astra then the bars to the feet, and the locks, the covers, and the rubber strips.

But they did the job.

Currently listed at £110 new with feet pack. So not outrageous.
