Needs new (gubbins) but they’re only a tenner from eBay.
oohh I was going to say that
"cheap/easy fix" - if it's so easy/cheap why haven't you done it?!
Except when you include the word "except", completely is nothing more than an unnecessary expansion of mint as, in essence, "completely mint" and "mint" mean exactly the same thing. Except is a useful word.Mint except is fine but completely means completely...
If someone lists a car like that, don't even bother contacting...that's always been my approach. If they can't be bothered to list a price they will want way more than it's worth and others sell for. As you say, usually utter morons trying to sell a heap.Seller - inbox me for price
Me - hi, could you tell me the price?
Seller - make an offer
Me - OK, how about £5k?
Seller - na m8, want at least £10k, I no wot I got.
Basically the budget version of POA on ads for expensive cars, which I find equally annoying.
"Completely mint" implies it is an immaculate car with zero issues, adding except on the end means it isn't completely mint as it has issues....and often the list is quite a long one and the car is far from 'mint'.Except when you include the word "except", completely is nothing more than an unnecessary expansion of mint as, in essence, "completely mint" and "mint" mean exactly the same thing. Except is a useful word.
Never been overclocked.
Well no that's inaccurate, both syntactically and iinterpretivlely. You cannot clarify beyond "mint" by adding "completely", it is redundant."Completely mint" implies it is an immaculate car with zero issues, adding except on the end means it isn't completely mint as it has issues....and often the list is quite a long one and the car is far from 'mint'.
E: Mint on it's own tends to mean that car is clean and tidy but might have some niggles, ime.
Tyre and brake advisories on MoT - "Oh did I not put that in the listing?"
Or when you go to view a car the explanation that they hadn't noticed a bit of damage, windscreen cracked as they were driving along, or one a few years ago - "I was just putting it away in the garage and caught the rear spoiler on a can of paint hanging up, I'll give you a bit off the price to cover the cost of repair". All perfectly possible/truthful but it does make you question how it has been looked after.
Full dealer service history - When you go to view you see it doesn't actually have that, the service book isn't stamped and the excuse that they thought the receipts were in the huge file of paperwork. Surely that is something you would go through and check before putting it up for sale, or something you would already know. I remember last year I took it to this dealership and they did a service on it when it had an MoT.
A recent-ish one since VED became non transferable - TAX and MoT until 2021. MoT fair enough but the TAX cannot be transferred, they will receive the refund in the post after the change of registered keeper. It might look all good and well on the DVLA tax check, point this out to them and they look confused, pleading ignorance to the change.
Well that's exactly the point isn't it, people use these phrases commonly and incorrectly, we're not the ones that need to be told how to use the English language, the utter morons selling cars are.
Spot the guy that uses most of the terms in this thread when selling cars.No comment
I'm perfectly happy with continued use of "completely mint, except..." and "mint, except..." because there is no definable difference between the two statements. So "morons" can keep using those without issue from myself as they do so correctly.
I think your experience and consequential analysis of the use of "mint" vs "completely mint" is inaccurate as it is more likely down to each individuals vernacular rather than an unwritten industry standard.
Perhaps, but it would be good to state that, 6 or 12 months included. Some places have been just paying the tax for people instead.
can't say many things bother me but when selling I keep getting the usual
"what's the cash price?" I don't know what ebay/pistonheads deal in but cash is what I advertise my cars for.
