NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Yes, not really worried about the cable or adapter, just about the 750W but tempted to stick with it, we'll see.

If the top card is 400W, processor is... 150W? (max for a 3900x), you're still pretty safe with 200W for the rest, I think... Unless you're overclocking a 10900k.

Max theoretical power is going to be 375W - two 150W PCIe cables and 75W through the bus - and will probably be under 300W. Add in 150W for the CPU and 50W for everything else then you've got a load of 500W. So 750W is going to be more than enough, even with overclocking. Remember that 750W is the output wattage, not the input, so you're not going to have capacity problems.

Some very interesting stuff in the latest MLID video. Certainly sticking his neck out.

Ampere potentially 400W overclocked. 12GB VRAM (18Gps), 2.0 GHz boost, OC to 2.2GHz but then hitting that 400W. 40% increase in rasterization and 3-4 X increase in RT performance. Increased IPC. 8nm Samsung.

The interesting bit is RDNA2 could be 50-60% over a 2080Ti. Sounding like a close fight to me with software and price deciding it.

Edit:

A 10900K plus 3080Ti build could see some serious power draw, looks like it could be a warm winter for some ;)

What will come first?
This thread hitting 400 pages of speculation before the release date or an actual release date and performance details of the new nvidia card/s.

It seems nvidia like to eek out every last drop of eagerness to muffle out any actual disappointment come the big day.
I've had nvidia cards for a long time but the price of the 2080's is disgusting, if the 3080? is far cheaper then it will show how much they have milked their customer base.

Come on AMD, at least put up a fight for all our wallets sake.

I find MLID to sound credible but the reality differs somewhat maybe through no fault of Tom but it feels like it happens quite a bit.

I think what we will see is several undeniably powerful GPUs at the top end but there won’t be a price battle they will be within figures that have no meaningful effect, Nvidia will release something that edges it as whatever price they have to do that which might come shortly after the launch I.e. they will announce something extra IF they feel the need to.

So what we end up with as consumers is better performing high-end, but still at a very high price sadly.

I would not be surprised if you are correct. MLID had gone full time so I believe he's sincere but that didn't mean his sources will be perfect. I think the greatest moderator on price will be consoles and their effect on GPU sales. If some enthusiasts are considering it if price are high then I'm sure average gamer will be. That alone could bring some reality to the next gen GPU pricing.

AMD are in a solid position right now I'm starting to believe they will have less incentive to start a price war on the high end. I guess they would have to match or be 10-20% less if ML is indeed correct on the 50% number.

Really hope he is right. We need the competition!! Would be nice to see price for performance improve a lot and Nvidia to get a spanking.

Just remember guys about that 12 Pin rubbish, it was also said it was only the Flounders that had it, the custom cards would be like normal, so if everyones only buying a Flounders, and not a custom, then yep, you'll need a new PSU/12 Pin cable. :p

I would really advise people not to hope for a price war because that is simply not how business is done, if AMD have a competitive or better card I would pretty much expect Nvidia level prices because in reality AMD are not the second coming of Jesus they are are profit driven company

Maybe a cable comes with the graphics card :p

I am expecting price for performance to improve a decent amount and prices to not go any higher at the very least. I can’t see AMD charging a 4 figure sum even if they have performance crown.

So we should hope for what exactly, a vastly increased price and just humbly swallow it?? Hoping for something doesn't mean it going to happen but just rolling over and accepting something such as a price increase or zero competition before it's announced certainly increases it's likelihood.

It's called reality, if Big Navi is better than the 3090 then it will be a 4 figure card.
