BIOS Experts! Asus motherboard won't accept custom BIOS - help!

Evening all. Trying to flash an Asus P8Z77-M with a custom BIOS I've built to add in support for Samsung/nvme. Had no problems doing this on my old Asrock board which also uses AMI BIOS.

Unfortunately both EZ-Flash and USB Flashback refuse to accept my modified image, stating it's not a valid UEFI image.

Just wondering if there's some kind of validation check that Asus use, a checksum maybe? Any pointers?

The flashback function isn't accepting my modified bios image, it reads (slow flashing led) but doesn't move on to the write operation (fast flashing led).

Unsure why that guide talks about updating the Intel management stuff, not sure if that's relevant. Maybe someone could shed some light.

The link talks about using Asus suite to flash it, and the work around of the BIOS verification.

I'll take another look once their mysql database is back online!
