NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Strange, im sure i read on there it was going to be on the custom cards too, but its gone now :p

EDIT: Yeah, sounds like it.

Graphics card vendors will include ketchup-and-mustard adapters that convert 2x 8-pin to 1x 12-pin

If it was just the FE, that wouldn't be saying graphics card vendors would it, as only Nvidia do the FE, don't they ?

If we assume that this is true and that this new connector can support 600W. I wonder if every adaptor will have 4 8 pin connectors, or will they go with 3 different versions (300W, 450W 600W) for extra confusion and fustration.

looking at those 12pin drawings, it does sound a little dubious. both the 6x and 8x pin pcie power connectors have a sense pin but those 12pin drawings suggest it doesnt. I would expect a 12pin connector to have 1x sense pin and potentially one unused pin, so 5x 12v and 6x ground or 5x 12v and 5x ground (officially) if one pin is unused. The sense pin is there for a good reason, it would seem strange for nVidia to drop it in 12pin connectors unless they intend one of the pins to do double duty now. Not sure what that would mean for compatibility though....

Maybe reference boards?

Yeah the FEs are Nvidias reference cards.

so what was the part where the translator basically showed the guy had made everything up?

Yeah there was a translation, with it saying at the bottom, none of this is true, i made it all up, or something like that, but we don't know if that was just added on to it, as Techpowerup are saying, a well placed industry source, has said its real.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see :p

Nah, just read the original article.

update:

All of the above are my scends.

It seems that some readers, especially those abroad, can't understand the humor of Chinese, and I update the latest drawings and news summaries. The news is true. Now that Techpowerup sent the drawings, I'll also send them.

Gamers Nexus confirmed custom = same old connectors.

You dismissed it that it isnt true. Gamers Nexus confirmed it wasnt a rumour, and now at top of this page @LoadsaMoney mentioned it again so just pointing out it isnt good considering..

oh no, my reputation as a GPU guru is in tatters....

Anyway, apologies for shooting you down in flames. I was wrong it seems now

Yes that's all. Anyway..

Its not a huge deal as board partners can probably get round it. What I was inferring to was that with nvidia sharing some power draw is needed for their new line up (300w), it looks like they have ready to go a plan in case the AMD big navi look like they will steal any thunder. Think of it like the 5600XT shenanigans maybe?
