NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I am totally okay with 3-slot, 4-slot or even 5-slot GPUs. Look at the massive coolers we put on CPUs and compare them with the tiny coolers we expect on GPUs.

Same here. I would actually pay more for a 4 or 5 slot GPU with proper cooling and airflow. What's more likely though is that they'll put an AIO on it.

I can see the youtube video's incoming for this launch. Starts with installing the gpu into the pc with the new 12 pin power cable straight from a generator, then switches to the guy out the back pulling a rip cord to start the generator before switching back to him powering on the PC.

Ok so it's a new cable, what's the problem.
I'm sure we all had the same reaction the first time SATA was introduced, or 8pin EPS for motherboards.
It will either catch on or it won't, if it stops these cards having 2x8 pin and another 6 pin then surely that is a good thing.

Of course the real problem is because it is NVIDIA introducing it. What the betting AMD also use it.

I don't have a problem with a new cable. Seems like a good idea to me. It does suggest that these top end Ampere cards are gonna be next gen power usage though which again i have no problem with. With how good Nvidia have been on power/performance it's a bit of a surprise to see the numbers floated about at the moment.

I can live with a new cable but not getting a beefier psu! Surely a 750W 80+ gold is still more than enough these days?

I got 1000w. If a 295x2 worked on it with ease then I cant think of any single gpu card ever causing issues. Usually it does not even reach 50% load :p

Same. I may actually have to upgrade my PSU then. The whole reason of me going 1000w was that is is semi-passive, I like the fact that, bar gaming, the fan never turns on.

I read amd is 2 months behind. I dont think any one knows for sure yet.

If that's true and the other rumour is true about Nvidia releasing in September. That would mean AMD would be releasing both their GPU and CPU in November. I mean I guess they could release in December, but I know companies like to avoid that if they can.

Actually it might be better if AMD launches after Nvidia. It would only have made real sense for them to launch before Nvidia if they had a 3 to 6 months headstart,to get some extra sales. At least if they launch after Nvidia they can actually try and position their GPU stack better.

I have used that for years - a decent source of information about PSUs.
