Anybody recommend any of the brick repair products out there. Seems to be quite a few on the market.

The brick below was blown when drilled for a condensate pipe (not needed)

I intend to colour match/repair as close as possible the whole brick but reopen the hole as I want to pop a CCTV dome camera over it and run some CAT 6 into the wall and loft space behind it.

The camera is not heavy, but whatever I repair the brick with will need to be decent enough for four new drill holes/plugs/screws to secure the camera.

Thanks

Honestly one of the easiest ways is to simply drill out the brick, and replace..

My house is 35 years old and I'm just having an extension fitted and the builder has managed to find the exact bricks..

When I fitted my cooker hood, I used a brick sized 'vent' and drilled out a brick by carefully drilling the cement first, then a bolster chisel to chase/clean it out, it took about 30 minutes to have it completely ready for a new brick.

I've got plenty of bricks courtesy of the previous owner.

My only worry would be the cement line not matching so it stands out completely as a replaced brick opposed to whatever red shows out the sides of the CCTV camera by repairing it (if that makes sense)

Normally it's just the sand colour that is important, you could try a few, someone with more experience might suggest what colour (Orange?)

Failing that, MAPEI do a massive range of coloured grouts which you could probably get a better match.. either using normal cement for the brick, but just face the grout line with coloured grout..

Most tile shops should have the entire range and a swatch board to help..

Have you tried the dome camera over it? I bet the majority of it will be hidden, standard brick 215mm most dome cameras around 110mm.

do you have the piece(s) that came out?

I damaged one a few years back and stuck it back with araldite and it's been fine ever since :p

ah just seen you need to drill it so prob not good enough for that

If you stuck it back on with Gripfill and let it set for 48 hours that'd be strong enough to drill.

Nope, don't have the blown pieces unfortunately.

Going to give a repair kit a shot. Either way once the camera is up, shouldn't see too much of the repair either side of the dome camera. Just hope the kit takes to drilling ok.

Create some brick dust by drilling a some holes in an equivalent brick with a hammer action or SDS and then mix in in to a decent exterior filler. It wont match be a perfect match but build it up the repair in 2 or 3 stages and you can even texture the last stage to get it to blend in relatively well. The finer you can get the dust particles the better, don't put too much in otherwise it will compromise the bond and integrity of the filler but you can put a fair bit in to get the colour match to be adequate.

Wish I had thought of this ...... thanks.

12 hours drying time and 72 hours to cure .. I'm relatively pleased and could but may not put a final skim and run a brush through for texture. But the fact a dome camera is going to sit over most of it don't think I need to.

Supposed to wait 72 hours for full curing. Let's hope it don't fall down :-)

£17 for the brick repair and a bit of my time. Quite pleased.
