EVGA got a few RTX 2070 Super models that appears identical:
  • EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC ULTRA
  • EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER KO GAMING
  • EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER BLACK GAMING
  • EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 Super FTW3 ULTRA GAMING
  • EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 Super XC Gaming
WTH... which one would you go with ? Price wise they are very close to each others.

If they're all very close in price go for the top whack FTW3 but make sure you check the sizing for your case.
Otherwise I think the sensible choice has always been to go for the XC Ultra as that's been the sweet spot on price vs performance

When was the last time that actually happened?

So do you think that every generation, NVidia cards increase in price by the same or more percentage wise as they go up in perf?

have a look at how much the 780ti cost vs the 970 at time of release then compare their performance then do the same with the 970 and 1070. I know these cards well as I did these upgrades.

to save you some time though I can tell you that the performance was about the same but the cards were a good chunk cheaper.

Otherwise cards will be around £10k in a decade or so.

You didn't take into consideration how strong AMD was back then and why did you not look at recent price per performance of for instance 1080ti vs 2080ti?

Yeah the 2080 launched at the same price as the 1080ti with about the same performance and even had 3gb less vram!

so NVidia pull our pants down and everyone just accepts it as the new reality?

No, not everyone.

I didn't buy a 2 series card, and if Nvidia take the piscuit (and I'm sure they will) with the 3 series, I won't be buying one of them either.

No, we are all aware of the reality it's just that we accept the high end performance market has been a monopoly for a long, long time now and people have just had to swallow the ongoing price creep we'v experienced from Nvidia.

The launched the GTX480 retailed for £499, Nvidia's fastest consumer grade card in 2010, fast forward to 2020 and Nvidia the RTX Titan isn't even available at retail and is sold exclusively by Nvidia for the princely sum of £2400 and the cut down 2080Ti is £1200. I can give more examples, the GTX 1080 from 2016 was based on a GP104 was £700 at launch, the '104' designation is resevered for mid range chips yet compared to the GM204/GTX 970 it was double the price. So no, I don't expect Nvidia to give us better price/performance with a new generation, I expect worse or the same.

So you expect cards to get (eg) 50% percent faster each generation for 50% more cost or more?

Eventually hardly anyone could afford the.

Me, I expect the series replacement ( eg 2080 to 3080) to give 40% improvement at 10% price increase. Anything else is massive stagnation

Don't buy a new 2070 super now. Its literally the worst time to buy.

Either wait a couple of months , or maybe pick up a used/b grade one if you can find a bargain and must have a card now. That way you can sell it again and not lose much money and get a 3000 series.
