Which would you choose £450 build yourself or spec below

Hello. I’m currently moving out and taking my pc with me. My little sister plays on my pc daily (minecraft / roblox / other games)

we have a budget of £450 but we also have a friend selling his pc for £460.

what I’m asking is. Could I build something better than his specs for £460.

SPECS:

i5 4690k
16gb ddr3 ram
Gtx 970
500w evga power supply
256gb ssd
1tb hdd
Corsair case
WiFi card.

that’s it. Sorry if this post isn’t allowed. I’m just curious if I could build one better for same money. If so please link a build you would recommend. Really just wanna get it right for my little sister.

A ryzen 3300X is probably equal the 4690k
And supposedly a 1650s is better than a 970

But a Ryzen motherboard, 16gb of memory and a 3300x would be £260+
And the 1650s by itself is £160 so that is £420 before a case, psu and hard drives

Someone elsewhere suggested that they had found a B550 motherboard, 16gb of ram and one of the very new ryzen 4650G APU processors for £280 which would be an option if you could find it as that would give you an usable and upgrade-able computer for £440 or so but you aren't going to hit it otherwise.

That PC is massively overpriced, defo not worth it... Also the 3300X is massively ahead of the 4690k - in terms of both gaming and general performance.

As eeek mentions though, AMD's new Ryzen 4000 APUs have been released - not seen any UK retailer stock yet, but other parts of Europe have it already. That would be ideal for those sort of games, if you could find a stockist or get it delivered to UK at a reasonable price.

I'd look for something else used instead. If you can't any Ryzen 4000 stuff, you could do a mix of new and some used shopping around, you could build around something like the below with a Ryzen 3100. But ofc try buy used where you can to bring the cost down.

Thanks for the advice but our budget is pretty solid. Can’t really go above it. So is there anyway to get comparable performance for that price?
 
Keep looking for used as I said then but something newer.

But that 4690k rig isn't worth £460 by a long shot.

That pc is worth maybe £300 since no warranty on anything.

However pc parts new ones are really expensive. So you can't really build a pc for less than £600 these days. Well you could but it wouldn't be that great and it's worthwhile hitting the £600 mark minimum.

You are being harsh that cpu is only 25% slower than 3600 and 16gb of ram is plenty and still worth money.
Then you have the motherboard, 2 hard drives, psu, case.

Now the gtx 970 is just slower than a 1060 and people are asking £180 for those in the members market.

So the gpu alone is worth £120 or so or bottom end £90-£100.

So to say all the other parts are £200 is a good deal. Bare in mind it's quality parts like an evga psu, etc.

£300 is a fair price. Gpu's second hand are expensive.

But it's a dead i5 platform with a 3.5GB 970, just my opinion no harshness intended.

You know, yourself and Psycho Sonny might be right there, I could well slouch corrected. I hadn't checked for a few months what I could sell my kit for, I'd just read stuff like "crazy prices" and not actual figures. I've just bought a 3700x, B550 board and memory and thought I'd check what a 4790k complete system would go for, because I'll be selling the rig in my sig soon but with a 1070 as I'm obviously taking the 2080 with me.

It could cost me as little as £100 to upgrade if I got really lucky :eek: although having the 1070 in there might help with that.

I’m well out the loop. I ended up getting a pc from Facebook market place. I was hesitant at first but checked it all over when I was there. Downloaded speccy to make sure it was what it said on the tin.

I personally felt like it was a good deal.
I know it’s not **** hot but it’s only for my 12 year old sister and I think it will still hold up for a couple of years with what games she’s playing. It’s probably even overkill right now for the games she’s playing. I’m still wondering in your guys eyes if that’s a good deal or if I got ripped off but I’ve spent the money now and she’s currently on it having a laugh with her mates and I think that’s what it’s all about in the end. Thanks for all the help guys.
 
£280 not a bad deal at all for a full system like that. 4670k, 980 and 16GB RAM was top end for its time and prob still runs great.

I’d have no regrets mate, especially like you say it’s for 12 y/o sister and it’ll run the stuff she wants. Then it’s money well spent

Just glad you didn’t get conned on the initial system that was over priced. You’ve got a better system for nearly half the price! So it was worth to keep looking about like I said for used ;)

Ah, I thought the price was the £460. It's not really a bad deal then at all, it's about what I'd pay for it so you've done good there.

Edit: This is a different system to the original, which was massively overpriced. This is great for 280 quid.

It makes me want to upgrade my old system haha

But even that still runs what I play. I’m still on 1080p so it all works for me

If anyone pays that price for his PC they’re a mug lol

Edit: Jamster’s post proves the point, OP got the i5 model and your running the i7. He’s managed to get the full system with a better GPU (980) for £280 :p
