PC for video editing

I have a PC that I got from PC Specialist in 2013 and want to upgrade.

I mostly use it for video editing, inc 4K.

I have 11 HDDs (3.5") plus 2 BD-RW drives which I want to keep in the new PC.

I have had a look at the video editing pc's on overclockers, but they dont fit my requirements. I want this case - ZOFOS EVO SILENT FULL TOWER GAMING CASE - BLACK which is big enough for my HDDs.

Can anyone recommend which motherboard I should get that would have enough sata ports? Should I be looking at anything in particular regarding the configuration for my intended use?

My budget is around £2000 but not set in stone.

Greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Most modern motherboards won't have enough sata ports
Because of the gaining use of M2 drives
4,6,8 sata ports is pretty common now
You likely will need an add in card
With more sata ports
That's a healthy budget though
And with the huge core count available on
Desktop pcs compared to your 2013 pc
You will see a big difference
Plus ssds/M2 drives
Lists/basket aren't my strong point
But someone will come along and spec
You something suitable for that budget

I don't think you will find many boards these days with that many Sata ports, maybe look at getting a pcie sata expansion card.

You can get a 12 or even 16 core cpu
With that budget
But those mechanical hard drives will severely hamper it
Replacing as many as possible with ssds
Would be something I would consider
Once you have used ssds
Using mechanical drives is horrible

What's your full PC specs atm out of interest? Also what's the total capacity of your HDDs?

You could benefit from buying bigger drives to amalgamate some of that data! And if that data's important, I hope you have a cloud/offsite backup :D

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I would like to replace the mechanical drives but it would very costly. They are mostly 4 TB each. One is 15 TB and one is 8 TB

This is my current spec. It was good till around 2 years ago, now its struggling with 4K and the fans are always on very loud.

Pretty sure ocuk if you phone them can
Build to your specs if what's on the website does not suit your needs
11 drives is a lot and obviously if they are
Large replacing them all with ssds would be too costly
How many of the 11 are ones you work
From and how many for back ups etc?
Using storage spaces with some of them may also be an option depending on your
Actual usage
Possibly replace the C drive and 1 other with a ssd as a scratch disk?

Keep most of the HDDs in your current PC, turn on sharing, and turn it into a server / spare PC. You can pull the GPU as that CPU has onboard graphics. You can also pull the sound card - not needed in a server. Linus Tech Tips did a couple of videos on building a video-editing PC just recently:

You might want to give your current PC a dusting and check the fluid level in the cooler. Repasting the CPU cooler won't hurt.

Unf I dont have the space to keep both PCs. Should mention 3 of my current drives are SSD, including the C drive.

None of the current drives are backups. I use most of them to work from. I backup to an external HDD but not everything due to disk space issues,

I want this case - ZOFOS EVO SILENT FULL TOWER GAMING CASE - BLACK which is big enough for my HDDs.

I count only 10 3.5" bays in that case. Why don't you keep your current case? If you want a new case for that many drives, take a look at the Fractal Design 7XL. Just remember to order the extra drive bay sleds.

Not sure how to check fluid levels. I will google it, thanks

Take it off and weigh it and compare the weight with the shipping weight. You can also give it a shake and listen for the sloshing sound.

The fractal 7XL looks good too, I will check it out. Yes, my current case has only 10 bays. I have a few HDDs that I have just shoved onto the floor of the case and one above the PSU. I know, shocking.

I have 2 PCIe TV Tuner cards that I want to move across. I also have a Sata expansion card, which if my new motherboard doesnt have enough sata ports, I will have to move across.
I will leave the soundblaster and get a new sound card in the new pc

I’d probably go with a X370 taichi and these assuming 16c32t and 32gb of memory has you covered.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £948.87 (includes shipping: £9.90)

The other option would be a thredripper system along with something like a 16 port SAS/SATA card.

What operating system do plan to use?
