980ti cannot achieve max settings on Crysis 3 at 1080p?

Which further proves our point, if you need 4.2 and beyond for the game to perform optimally, then there is something wrong with the game.

Could well be, but in crysis 3 the cloth and grass physics is extremely taxing on the system. Project Cars is exactly the same, however in that game you can customize the level of grass effects. Similarly with Assetto Corsa the smoke generation causes massive fps dips too but the effect is lovely seeing 30 odd cars wheel spin at the start of a race. :p

So I am running a 2500k @4.2Ghz, 8GB DDR3 Ram and a 980ti overclocked. Everything on very high I am getting between 40-50fps in Crysis 3. This is even with AA disabled and at 1920x1080 (1080p). Stock GPU settings also achieves same effect, though I see a performance boost with the OC.

This surely can not be right can it? Not with the benchmarks I have been seeing.

When I get 40-50fps it drops to around 60%. When I am getting 100+ Fps (looking at a wall for instance in doors) it goes to nearly 100% which is strange. CPU around 85%

Crysis 3 is one of the few games where an i7 or even an FX-8350 will serve you better.

Yeah, so later on I learned the problem is it didnt have hyper threading, so no matter what you do it will never get above 60fps during both the grass simulation levels and as well as levels that are heavy physics driven, such as the first mission with the swaying cables. Once i upgraded the processor to one which has hyperthreading, the problem went away completely

I looked at the OP and knew it was the 2500k. I needlessly upgraded my GPU only to still have frame drop out in games. Turned out I needed to upgrade to an 8 thread+ CPU. I got a Ryzen 2600 and everything was fine

2500K was a good CPU in its day, it really was but today.... well even a 2600K it gets its arse handed to it by a Ryzen 3300X.

Its time to let Sandy Bridge retire into legendary status in the hall of fame of great processors, there are much better CPU's available now for little money. :)

Interesting 5 year bump. Never played Crysis 3, though want to try now having read this thread just to use it a Bench and see how it peforms on Ryzen.

Its actually quite a good game. still looks good 8 years later.
I've been playing it lately too. Cant believe how good it still looks. That first level out in the rain blows my mind. It ran like crap when I first played it so I stopped but its good now on this laptop with 4800h/5600m.
