Proposals are well underway for a train station to be built 1/2 mile from my house

On paper this sounds amazing.
It opens up jobs in Bristol, Cardiff and even further.

Draw back might be damage to the park, more noise and people. I don't think people will be parking on my street.

FYI, it's a 15-20 minute trip to Cardiff in a car and 45 minutes on a bus. This would be down to 5 minutes.

I think the pluses outweigh the negatives.
It's public consultation time in August. I believe its quite far along, but not guaranteed

Opinions?

Yes, absolutely.

I'm extremely hopeful that the metrolink in Manchester will make its way nearer to us in the next decade. My house price will go up, it will be much easier for me to get in and out of Manchester and it means I can have a few beers in Manchester and not need to pay extortionate taxi fares to get home.

The website is rather very well but polished sadly it lacks any detailed plans just a load of vague promises, dreams and a wish list. From what I can see that is going to be a massive development right next to the town.

Cardiff Parkway is a new railway station proposed within the Hendre Lakes development which is expected to welcome more than 800,000 passengers a year
That is a lot of people driving to the station.

Connecting people, the region and the economy
Situated just seven minutes from Cardiff Central and Newport South Wales, the station promises to drastically cut journey times to both cities, as well as improve connectivity to other areas of the country and the wider UK.
Sure I'm going to drive to this station to get a 7 minute train ride...

I'd be extremely glad as this will surely boost your property value massively?

Potentially. I don't know how far prices get boost.
Looks like it would be a 15 minute walk or 5 min cycle for me

Yeah this is what I was thinking. Is it just another pipe dream type thing.
I think opening up Bristol would be the big draw. But I know what you mean completely

From what I know now it's been rumbling on for a while and it's supported privately, and by council (social mobility I guess)

But its still just a field. Would be a hell of a lot of work

Will it not have a massive car park and offer park and ride?

We just got a train station and the car park before covid was only used maybe 2-3%. The car park is massive. All ground level.

More homes being built though.

I wouldn't object. Public transport needs to improve to stop us from killing the planet.

I suspect it will.
It's great for the area as transport links if you don't have a car here are extremely slow

1/2 a mile away is fine, bottom of the garden not so much. Doubt you'll have any say in the matter anyway (well you'll have a say and they'll just go ahead and do it anyway. Public consultations are nothing more than a chance for people to voice their opinions which they'll ignore then do whatever they've decided anyway)

I'm going to support it.

The lure of being able to work in Bristol with Bristol wages but living costs of here is too good an opportunity to miss.

Will wait and see if its going ahead

Just hope it doesn't spoil the beautiful and wild park

I live 1km away from the nearest station as the crow flies and at the closest point the track is 750 meters away.

The only noise we very rarely hear is if they use the horn passing through, and for that the windows have to be wide open and be a VERY quiet night.

Dont sweat it, enjoy the rise in your property value :D

Oh the track is already there.
It's the main Cardiff line. So there isn't even that to consider

I'm 1-2 miles away from this development (Marshfield) and barring one concern about traffic I think this development will be a huge boost for this side of the city, which has fallen behind other areas in planning and investment. It's crazy that such a population dense area as StMs & Rumney have gone for so long without any rail links.

After deciding to go against the M4 relief road, for some reason, they have to go all in for public transport now. They need to sort prices of the tickets out though, I live not too far away in Chepstow and a ticket is £14+ a return. As parking prices are reasonable in Cardiff if there's 2 or more of you it's probably cheaper to drive.
