Completely agree. For some reason though some people seem to have taken it personally, and I’ve no idea why.

Do the same people get obsessed with how much other people spend on their cars? Or coffee machines? Or mobile phones?

Can’t say it’s ever crossed my mind how much other people pay for things except for possibly property but that’s an investment, not luxury goods.

Weirdly GPU prices appear to bring out the worst in people.

People bought in to the marketed game changer of RTX, however, it took 6 months for a game to support it and the performance was awful. After spending that much money, people get angry and defensive.
 
Quick somebody call the police, people are making fun of nVidia GPUs, and talking about bottoms to boot!

Try and think of something you can directly compare a GPU with...it’s difficult.

fact is, only AMD and NVidia make GPUs. They are a critical component in pc gaming.

cars don’t need to be faster than the speed limit, coffee machines just need to make coffee. There are lots of options.

when you are invested in a hobby and a component you need to keep changing keeps going up in price whilst offering less and less performance, it’s annoying. What a lot of us wanted was for people to boycott the 2080ti so as to send a message to NVidia,

Unfortunately, plenty bought. I have no issue with people who needed one, I just don’t think many really needed one so much they couldn’t have skipped a gen.

as a Manchester United fan I felt the same about the fans who kept going when the Glazers took over.

It has to be said some people on here take it thick. I got no bothers people buying a car for 50k out of the forecourt, doesnt mean I need one to get me from A to B. In this analogy its akin to bringing the range of motors up a few grand so everyone can just lump it.

The difference in reality is theres tens of other brands you can choose to get what you want. Unfortunately in the two horse race we all just have to lump what team green do. :rolleyes:

When I decided to upgrade my 3770k rig last year, I had been out of the PC building game for a while. Tomshardware was the go-to place for info when I had my last flurry of PC builds. I went beck and found it had turned into an ad-ridden wasteland. I did some searching, and found this site where I was able to brush up on what I had missed and inform myself what was what with the latest computer tech.

Turing's value proposition (or lack thereof) is useful information for people just getting into this, and this is just the kind of place to discuss it.

We have more than a few people posting stuff to the effect of "this is normal". It's not. Nvidia will have to stagnate for a few more generations in a row, before this becomes "normal."

When people post about how the next GPU's will be even more overpriced, I think it's helpful to reiterate out how historically abhorrent Turning is.

Heck, I bought a 3800X. When people talk about overpriced it was, I just nod my head. I wanted an 8-core Zen 2 CPU last summer and got impatient waiting for 3700x's to restock so I blew the money on a 3800X. I knew it wasn't worth it because of sites like this and reviews that people reference here.

I like that the general public will find discussions about what a waste of money the 3800X is when a 3700X can be had so much cheaper. I didn't try to play the "Gotta pay to play" or "If you want the best (8core Zen2)" games. The 3800X's price simply wasn't worth the tiny performance it offered over the 3700X.

And I'm happy for that information to be repeated often.

Pretty sure even Jensen said himself that the new gen of cards at the upper end would be cheaper. Probably use the current situation as an excuse and maybe they will be a small amount cheaper, which would be an almost pointless reduction anyway
