Hi guys,

Probably been asked and answered a hundred times in different ways, but here's my version...

My new build will be finished by the end of the week, will it be possible to image my current setup on it with minimal fuss? Current rig in sig and my new setup is Ryzen-based. Keeping the same graphics for now. Essentially the only system changes are the mobo, ram and cpu.

Not sure what Windows 10 is like for adapting and updating but I remember trying something similar once with Vista and all hell broke lose... I guess I can always try it out anyway?

Thanks.

Yeh not sure about win 10, previous win versions generally wouldn't swap over due to problems in the HAL. There was software by acronis I think which swaps a drive over, it's not 100% but this was years ago so may be better.

Windows 10 handles hardware changes fairly well, especially compared to older iterations of Windows.

That said, since you're taking the time to put a new system together anyway why not just do a fresh install?

I think there's pro's and con's for both options but for me personally, it's about time and keeping things the way they are :)

I don't like change as you can see from my sig, I've waited 9 years already... and been really lucky with such a legendary chip as the 2500k.

I did this and for me ,it all went fine. Simply install the new gear (from intel to ryzen) and it booted up the first time! I didn't even have to choose a boot drive either (I have an M.2 SSD and a HDD) so I guess that windows automatically recognised it. In terms of software activation just make sure your current PC is linked to your Windows account if you don't have a product key, then when you've replaced the parts it will ask you to activate windows, it will give you an option that says something along the lines of "I've changed some hardware", you click on that, it asks you to select which PC you have changed and it removes the license for that PC and gives it to this one. It is actually surprisingly simple!

Quick update; the whole process went seamlessly... amazing! My, how things with Windows have changed :)
