I've decided to re live one of my fondest gaming experiences on XB 360 but now on PC. Mass Effect

I've now played through Mass Effect 1 and 2 on PC with an Xbox 360 controller.

ME1 still needed the keyboard for a few things, but mostly was fine. Mass Effect 2 was perfect other than the pause menu screen worked backwards and there wasn't a graphical overlay for the powers wheel (the text descriptions were still there though)

I just went to play Mass Effect 3 with my nice imported character and blow me, it has the worst support of the three for controller pads.

Someone got everything working except you can't use powers at all, making it pretty much impossible to play.

I can't believe Bioware "couldn't dedicate resources" when it worked fine on Xbox 360 and the previous 2 PC games had the code in there to make it work. Absolute ****e.

Nobody ever fixed it either, and the ME3 modded coalesced file for partial controller support was made over a year ago.

Just finished modding this with the texture pack, did the .ini changes, installed sweetfx and started it, looks absolutely sweet compared to the 360 version I played.

Heard about the controller problems so thought would just use the kb+mouse. However after the cutscene I quickly discovered the mouse acceleration that you can't turn off!

Not sure I will be able to stick with this :(

Truly awesome game.

I just installed it on Origin and played without any problems, but if I was going to replay it I'd definitely look into one of the texture packs.

Played this originally on 360 but I could never go back after playing on PC. I actually feel like the controls are better on pc, especially for the shooting mechanics.

Texture mods for the original are great too. Are there any ui mods for it too?

What's the deal with DRM of you get this games of origin? Do the first two have limited installs like the original disc versions?

I find myself coming back to Mass Effect time after time. There's a timeless quality aspect to it that frankly is missing from newer games, and certainly new Bioware is nothing but ****. Runs and looks great, even after all this year, though with a bit of help from mods. Time to fire it up again!

I replayed the first game a little while ago and to be honest it hasn't aged well, the combat isn't all that enjoyable.

The 2nd and 3rd games however are really good, lacking some classic RPG qualities but makes up for it with a satisfying combat experience and immersive and compleing storyline.

the combat isn't all that enjoyable.

I don't find it too bad - the main problem I found really is sifting through the massive amount of **** with lacking detailed information to get to good setups that are fun to play in combat. I find games annoying when you don't have a good break down of stats to compare things.

I actually really enjoyed the ammo combos of the first game, as well as the more detailed RPG stat system. I understand for most people it will feel bad because initially you're "under-specced" but I didn't mind at all. I feel like there's a better power progression in that one than all the others. That being said, obviously in terms of handling the 3rd was really good and much better. The MP didn't explode because of the story aspect after all. :)

I replayed ME1 early this year and then moved to the 2nd. Thought the 1st was still amazing and the 2nd let down slightly by bang average combat and weaker storyline :p

Horses for courses I guess - still need to finish that ME2 playthrough...

The first one definitely has some of the worst game play, but the actual story/World building is excellent.

ME2 turns in to a bit of a corridor shooter (Gears of war esque) but (most) of the new characters are good, as is the story leading up to the suicide mission and it feels like it has real stakes.

ME3 probably refined the game play best, but the story wasn't as good and the ending was....well, it wasn't amazing.

I missed Mass Effect so I tried to play the first one recently and gave up because the gameplay was just horrible. Worth getting the gist of the story and playing the second one?

Best way to play the first is to put it on easy and just blast through combat as fast as possible. It's worth it for the story/ characters although combat is rough these days.

I think I'm due for another trilogy run of this franchise. Has to be my favourite.

There is word of a remaster on the way though, right? Wonder if it's worth just waiting for that

Great series but never finished me3 or played andromeda.

I played Andromeda a year after release and it wasn't half bad. There were one or two bugs but it was a very playable game. The problem with it though is the Mass Effect name, it's not the same style of game as the others. Think it as a different series with a Mass Effect theme.
