Constant game crashes with RTX 2080 Super

I have got a new system, specs below, but I am finding a lot of the games I am playing are crashing to desktop often regardless of graphical settings in and out of game. I have updated all drivers, windows etc etc and have all games running as admin. I am curious to see if it is a PSU issue even though 650W is more than is required.

Is a GPU stress test through something like unigine superposition the best way to go to test GPU and PSU to see if anything fails or is there a better way to test both or the system overall?

Hi

Have you checked the cables are all seated correctly ? check all the cables in the pc not just the GPU power connectors.

Sometimes memory can cause an issue so try running MemTest86 from a USB stick.
https://www.memtest86.com/

Power supply should power that rig no problem.

I have only re-plugged the GPU back in but when home will try all others to ensure that's not the issue.

With memtest86, once it's on the USB do you just run the programme as normal on windows or do you need to boot to Bios etc to run it?

Yeah just do it in the bios screen and change the boot option to the usb drive.

So I'd start by checking the whole PC and making sure all the cables are plugged firmly in, then if that didn't work I'd do a clean install of windows and reinstall all the appropriate drivers. If that didn't work then I'd assume something was wrong with the GPU and email the manufacturer claiming that there is a defect...

Particularly check your gpu power cables are seated properly. Are they modular or hardwired? Is there another gpu cable you can try? You might want to plug in 2 separate cables.

I guess I must be strange because I have never found an issue caused by a modern good quality power supply like yours. And rarely a new graphics card. Especially with a new CPU it tends to be the motherboard. One thing I would certainly check up with Asus is they are devils for overclocking the CPU as standard so I would look in to the possibility that it is just pushing your CPU too far and crashing.

Yep very. I have already had to replace the PSU, got a replacement GPU coming today and got 32gb of 3600mhz upgraded ram tomorrow.

I know the i7-10700k is turbocharged but if none of the above works, I will double check the bios for OC and stress test the CPU. Is there a easy way to see if your CPU is OC'd? Also, how long should you leave the stress test for?

It's odd as the computer doesn't BSOD or switch off, the game just freezes and returns back to desktop.

Yeah, when I was building my first PC I didn't plug in my GPU power cables correctly and so when I booted it up all I got was a BSOD. Scared me to death for a few minutes before realising that I hadn't plugged in my cables properly

Oh god I can imagine. My friend recently did this but only plugged in 4+4 rather than 7+7 so was clustering when his computer was not displaying any output until the penny dropped!

I remember a friend forgetting to plug the CPU fan into a stupidly expensive imported AMD. This was back in the days before your mobo would scream at you if it didn't detect a CPU fan...

Have you checked your afterburner graph after the crashes? It might tell you if anything weird is going on with temps or power.

Got my replacement GPU today, which just happened to be a newer version, and happy to say so far no crashes!!! Got a new 32Gb set of ram coming tomorrow, 8 Pack 3600 mhz so hopefully tomorrow it will run even sweeter!!

32GB for gaming won't make it run sweeter dude but glad you got the GPU sorted and its fixed your problems

Great! But can I ask why you have decided to get an 8 pack of 3600Mhz ram, that means each stick must be 4gb?
