NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Why is it?

Materials cost - same.
Labour cost - same
Shipping etc - same

The only thing that costs money up front is R&D development, and machinery/tooling, which has to be recouped over the product life. Why should this have gone up compared to last gen?

Shipping is more expensive, materials not sure but I would guess more expensive.

It went up with turing and thats why were amazed. I think they got overconfident on the back of the last mining craze, hopefully the demand from that market pops - but it will still attract those that are now using them for this to replace rigs that had 1080s for example. So expect them to try still buy bulk orders soaking up the supply.

One to add to that list though:
Leather jacket - same

If the 3080 is above 900 quid then I'll think about quitting PC gaming. PC gaming is becoming more and more unaffordable, only a really small minority of people are even going to be able to afford them, you reach the point where what's even the point of the technology.

Can I ask why people are so unwilling to accept prices? There are two manufacturers, and they can set whatever price they want right?

Are you all waiting for some unbelievable deal like when the 8800GT came out in 2007? The advice on this forum has been "wait for this" "wait for prices" for as long as I can remember, at what point does it just become accepted that this is what they're charging for their hardware?

Genuine question, I'm not trying to be antagonistic.

Companies are supposed to try and make as much profit as they can. That's kind of their job.

Consumers are supposed to try and get the most product for our money. That's kind of our job.

*if* Turing actually sold well, (and I'm not yet convinced that it did) we consumers didn't do our jobs.

I "accept" that Nvidia can offer tiny performance for massive price incresses. I hope Nvidia "accept" that I'm not buying that.

I tried the 5700xt a few months ago and it was complete disaster trying to run on my qled TV. HDR didn't work at all and it refused to run 1440p 120hz and every time I rebooted a game the resolution would change. Freesync worked but it was stuttering like crazy and without freesync games were laggy.
So it will be couple of years before I dare to touch AMD card again, especially when paired with this qled TV.
I would rather get nvidia card pay an extra £200 than have to deal with anything like that again. It was very stressful trying to get it to work and 30 hours of my life I will never get back

Oh dear not good. But surely there are many out there that this didn't happen to them or it would be plastered all over here?

Personally though and 'extra £200' is a lot and would be looking into it deeper to find out why rather than that. I can take £50 or so unless your slightly exaggerating.

In one way i love to see the 3090ti get released at £1499 or £1999 so i can have lots of fun reading all the posts about it in here :D

But of cause i no want to see it released at that kind of price as i may need to buy one myself ;)

Then hear all the enthusiasts moan, consoles are holding back the PC,whilst ignoring the potatoes most mainstream gamers end up having to use!!

:p

Makes a change from the "amd have nothing in the high end so its ALL their fault" rather than "nvidia are taking the biscuit so im not buying one!"

The entire internet will be on fire if that happened . Console players will be enraged and PC player would probably join in.

I feel that with the right climate - incredible games and a good economical situation, they would have pulled it of. Neither of those are on their side. Same for AMD and nVIDIA (besides Cyberpunk is there any other game expected to push the limit?).

Interesting times. :)

You can always buy the lower/mid range parts.

If the new cards get released at current price points or more then they better be three times more capable than the next gen consoles to warrant it.
My main Problem is i find there no new games these days that are good enough to make me want to spend lots on a high end GPU to run therm..

The new MS Flight sim 2020 or Cyberpunk 2077 may change that but guess i have to wait and see

Good point. I was thinking that myself just today. What next gen games are out/coming that will warrant the need for such power.

You got one in Cyberpunk but that's it.
I bought a 2080ti at the start of the lock down to replace my GTX 1080 and just about all i played was TMU which my 1080 could run just fine :o:o:D
