Hi All,

With the realease of FS2020 and a HP G2 reverb preorder i have been looking at ways i can upgrade my PC without too much extra work. I have a 2080TI so GPU is fine but after a browse i thought this would be a easy and worthy upgrade...or is it?

Upgrade from i7-6700k to i9-9700k ( same socket so it should just be one out one in right? )

Upgrade my current water cooling because i have never been able to overclock my 6700k with at even a little for a Kraken Z73 AIO https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt...r-cooler-with-lcd-screen-360mm-hs-01n-nx.html

And upgrade my memory from 32GB 2600mhz to this 8pack 32GB 3600Mhz

I know the doffrence wont be huge between the CPUS but with a new cooler and a overclock it would be right? All opinions welcome as are any other easy upgrades you think i should have

Thankyou! David

Upgrading yo a 9700k gonna be the biggest upgrade

What motherboard do you have ?

You need to check the cpu support list and probably need a bios update.

Geting faster ram mite increase performance somewhat you would have to look into ddr scaling in fs 2020, also depends what speeds your motherboard supports.

Also cost to performance ratio is it worth it.

Thanks for the reply. I have a AS rock Z170 pro4S

Unfortunately, despite being the same socket. Your motherboard will not support a 9700K. It will only go as far up as a 7700K, which isn't worth upgrading to.

I wouldn't bother changing the RAM either. Whilst 2600 is a bit slow, I dont think you'll see much of a difference to 3200. Maybe try overclocking your current ram a little.

Sorry micky, stole your thunder there.
It could be worth doing a motherboard swap if you're able to source a 9700K.
Otherwise you'd be better going 10 series Intel, or even AMD.

Lol, im just a slow typer.

Don't bother with a new cooler for overclocking if you have struggled it's not worth the cost. Especially if you struggled before it mite be down to your motherboard limitations

It comes with a overclock tool with presets but soon as i set even the lowest its a blue screen...always assumed it may be badluck with the CPU or just a cooler issue ( tho i play VR games a lot and never had a issue )

Thanks any suggestions on motherboard? Would i need a new case also? basically a PC upgeade now but without having tho worry about the GPU aha

You wouldn't need a new case are you happy with what you have now ?

It mite make you feel better if you get a new case ,feeling like new computer. :)

Why not look at the 10700k since it's basically a 9900k so 8/16 as opposed to the 9700k which is only 8/8.

For motherboard support your looking at Z390 for Intel 9th gen and Z490 for 10th gen.

So maybe this bundle? Will it need a new PSU also? or can i just take my stuff out now put this bundle in and add my GPU to it? Sorry for the newbie questiosn i have no built a pc in 10 years and out the loop

You can just swap out the cpu, motherboard and ram , you could even reuse your old ram.

My advice would be to do a fresh install of Windows after, so there us no conflicting drivers ,etc.

What psu do you have ?

You could also go amd as am alternative .

I'm on a 10600K, might be worth saving some cash versus the 10700K. Depending on what you want to use PC for.
Just gaming, 10600K is more than sufficient.

Thanks for the replys all,

Seem to have a generic 750W PSU

*edit* image isnt posting but its a FSP group INC model FSP750-50ERN

Not against a AMD switch but i have always had intel and never has any issues. I mainly will use the new setup to play MSFS2020 and other games in VR on the HP reverb G2 when its released in a month or two

Thanks all for the replies and advice, decided to take the plunge and switch away from ontel seems i need a new motherboard to do a upgrade anyway. This is what i have so far

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Processor
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3bc-am.html

ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS WIFI
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...4-x570-chipset-atx-motherboard-mb-6ds-as.html

8pack Ripped edition ( ill get 32GB not 16GB )
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-001-8p.html

But im really struggling on a case, PSU, a cooler and any other fans etc i may need if anyone has any suggestions thanks!

Tbh very rare I suggest it, but if you're talking pure gaming performance... I'd actually go Intel, they do beat AMD still in gaming with the 10600k and beyond. The 3950X is stupidly un-necessary as well lol.

6700k to current gen Ryzen will not net you a big performance difference. So I'd end up with something like this...

I'd go with something like this, tbh ATX cases are slim pickings. Not much in stock and less expensive models lack variety imo.
