Hi folks,

Looking to take the plunge and get a new PC. Will be a gaming PC and would love to be able to play MS flight simulator and Euro truck simulator at very high gfx settings.

Looking to spend around £1000 (+/- £200ish)

Is it a good time to buy? Always seems to be some release upcoming to wait a while.........

I've used OCuk before for my last PC and it's been great (I upgraded some components myself over the years so it's a bit like Triggers broom!!). I'd like to go with OCuk again - is there a particular build that stands out as great value? Am I better copying someone's work from the forum and getting OCuk to build a particular spec?

Been out of the PC scene for a while so lagging behind on what the story is, so I appreciate any advice/guidance.

Cheers

No reason not to buy now tbh for your budget. The only new GPUs coming out in next month with Nvidia are the top-end £1k cards... The bang for buck GPUs to run high fps 1080p / comfortable 1440p frames will likely not release until Q1 2021.

Just posted something similar earlier, do you not fancy building it yourself? Either way if not, you can ask OcUK to build it for you in the Customer Service subforum - but they add about £100 on top.

Recommend 32GB RAM this time round, as FS20 seems to like RAM and 32GB is the sweet spot for a slightly smoother experience. 16GB still runs great, but everyone seems to prefer 32GB after trying it.

I'd also highly recommend buying your own Windows 10 license key from a game key site or the famous auction site for about £5-10 max. Otherwise you'll be paying another £100 extra for the priviledge of OcUK to install an extortionately priced Windows license... :p

Case is obviously down to personal preference, up to you really on that front! Obviously you could get some RGB if you wanted too, but I just went for a quiet, sleek and under-stated look. :D

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,102.84 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Guys thanks so much, really appreciate the help.

Would there be a huge jump in price to be able to run ultra or 4k settings smoothly? I presume you're looking at one of the £1k cards?

I would spend the extra fiver on a Mugen 5 over that eSports Duo personally, much better HSF for such a small difference in price.

The Shadow Rock 3 is also a good choice with similar performance to the Mugen 5, although I think it might be louder.

If you're wanting to run 4K Ultra settings you can forget about it unless the games you play are fairly light on requirements, even a 2080ti will fall short doing that. That said, 'ultra' rarely looks much if any better than high, and often you can mix med-high and see very little visual loss while enjoying a good performance boost. It's probably worth waiting a couple of weeks to see what the new Nvidia cards are like, you should be able to get more performance for your money and you'll probably need it if you want to run at 4K.

sorry to jump on the post but I’m currently having a build done now with OC and I have added windows and it’s £100!?? why so much if you can get it for £10? wish I knew that before adding that!!

"Grey" keys.

Windows is very easy to install, you could opt to do it yourself.

I'm not sure why it cost so much.

You can get win 10 key for £10 You just download win 10 and put it on a usb stick to install. There are many guides to show you how.

You could always call overclockers to amend your order.

@Heyward83

Don’t pay OcUK for Windows, take it off the order & save £100 either in your pocket - or maybe upgrade mobo to B550 like this one and maybe get a 2nd NVMe if want more storage, up to you!

Then buy Windows yourself for £5-10... so easy to download, copy to USB and install it yourself in 20 mins when you get the system.

If you ever change mobo you’ll need to get a new W10 key. More reason to take it off order and get yourself at £5-10 to get a ‘legit’ key it’s a non-issue. And why would you be changing mobo soon though anyway? :p

Edit: For clarity btw that 5700 XT GPU will run games max settings for you @ 1080p easily with high FPS, or even 1440p very comfortably too if you want.

Edit2: Or for any more ££ you wanna invest back in system, could get a slightly flashier but sleek case like this if want. Pretty much same case but mesh front for bit better airflow and some lighting. Choices :)

Edit3 Just realised you’re not OP so a little misguided there with my above post lol

Back again!!

I see the new cards have been released - would a 3060 be possible in Sparx build above? Would that be a good move or wiser to get a bargain elsewhere?

Games wise - Euro truck and American truck - MSFS and possibly a few others - I'll be getting the next gen consoles so mainly looking the games I can't get on them. Would like to play on the highest res possible. Was considering hooking up to a Sony XG95 65" TV in the living room........or may get a new monitor and put it in my music studio. If it goes in the latter it'll probably get used for music production also.

I feel like a real sad idiot saying this.......but I'm busting to play Euro Truck simulator 2!! Have been for a long time!!

We all have our guilty gaming pleasures.

The 3060 hasn't got a release date yet - you would be better served, in the short term, taking advantage of the second hand 2070/2080/Super/Ti market with your GPU budget. They'll be popping up all over the place, and competitively priced, once 3070/3080 start shipping (and before).

If your budget is still around £1200 top end, for your spec I'd look at a Nvidia 3070 if you get your hands on a pre-order later this month. They're the £469 model that are supposedly faster than a 2080 Ti. As Plec says, no announcement on a 3060 GPU yet unless you typo'd and meant 3070. :p

I'd get this on today's prices/stock + the 3070 GPU when available. But get the 3600 CPU from somewhere else (should be about £173) and save £37 on the basket below... Dunno why OcUK having a laugh with their Ryzen CPU prices atm, they just keep going up and up lol.

Case is obviously your own preference. But that 32GB RAM kit is a very, very good price though.

Thanks so much mate. I'd prefer to get the best I can without getting a divorce - so if I can stretch to the 3070 I will........wonder if it'll be worth the extra £££......?

I'd prefer to keep the build all in-house and have it arriving at my door, plug and play (apart from W10 as I'll def avail of it cheaper!!). Wonder if OCuk price match if I give proof of it cheaper elsewhere.......even if they don't I'll still probably just get them to do it.

Everything else in that build more than decent obviously? With a 3060/3070 would it be a good gaming PC for a few years able to handle every game at decent settings? Sorry for the daft questions, I've fallen so far out of the loop I should go to A&E as I'm currently clueless to current spec's. Really appreciate the help.

It seems 3060 will likely come out just before Xmas if lucky... Depends how the the 3070/80/90 goes! Otherwise you're gonna be waiting a bit again :p

But yeah I'm sure the 3060 will also be great when released for your system. Alternatively as Plec suggested, maybe start looking at the used GPU market.
