Hi everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade my current build after trying to play the new flight sim on lowest settings - it plays but not well.

My current setup is

Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4-B3
Intel Core i5-2500K
Nvidia GTX 780
Samsung 850 Evo 500GB
8gb (2x 4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz
Coolermaster HAF X
Coolermaster GX 750W PSU

I'm considering anything up to £800, but it would be great to have a middle option too.

Thanks
DH

You have a couple of choices either stay with what you have an add 8gb ram and a better gpu or go new.

5600xt £250 could spend more if you want and 8 ddr3 £30

If you opt for new you could reuse the ssd and case if you want.

How old is the power supply ?

If you want something a bit under £800, and you don't mind re-using your SSD and case (that's a legendary behemoth case :p)...

Then could look at something like this.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £685.95 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I bought it back in 2011, not sure whether to be proud of that or not!

I like the look of this build, and I certainly need a new power supply. You are right about the behemoth case, my better half is desperate for me to get rid of it but I can’t bring myself to downsize. I don’t even need a case that big!

@Sparx buld would be an excellent upgrade or you could try the gpu and ram upgrade.

What's your preference?

I guess the decision pivots around the performance gains from upgrading the gpu and ram, how much does the cpu have an influence over my gaming? If it’s the case that I can upgrade my card and play on medium (or dare I say high) graphics for a brand new game such as FS20 then super, but is it more economical to do a full upgrade?

Save yourself £26 though as seems they put price up to £200 on the Ryzen 3600!! When it can be had for £174 at plenty of other places...

Flight Sim 2020 is both CPU and GPU very intensive, whatever you have to chuck at it, it'll use it. :p So an all-round upgrade would be wiser imo, you could always sell your old parts to offset the new parts cost.

If you fancy downscaling case slightly (not massively) to an mATX case to suit the mobo I suggested, this Aerocool One Mini is a good shout.

Edit: Or if you like a really nice compact mATX case, this Lian-Li Lancool 205M is great imo. But you'll have to search for it as I can only find it in stock at 1 other retailer for £48.83. :) (might make the missus happy too)

The cpu does affect performance the more powerful a cpu or more cores can push the gpu to maximum fps for that card.

Look at the system requirements for ms 2020.

You have nothing to loose by just getting a 5600xt as you can yourput that into your new build

Honestly, just sell your system as is, you'll easily get £250-300 on Faceache, Gumtree, etc. Just clean it up and sell it as a COD/Fortnite system.

Build a new one from the ground up, get your self a nice compact M-ATX case. Build suggestion below.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Blue SN550 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB GAMING OC Video Card
Power Supply: be quiet! System Power 9 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Custom: KOLINK Citadel Mesh Micro-ATX - Tempered Glass - Black

Total: ~£865.00

Total cost after selling your old system, ~£550-600

Thanks for the replies, really appreciate it. I hadn't really thought about selling my current PC, it’s a good idea and it puts a nice dent into the cost of upgrading.

I tried putting a basket together below. I couldn’t quite work the 5700 XT into the numbers, so went with the 5600 XT. Any improvements on the below?
