Won't the Mercs just be sitting ducks on the kemmel straight for the first lap or 2. Lewis is def in for some trouble or whoever survives La Source on the opening lap. Great quali lap though.

Not sure about sitting ducks, but I hope Ricky Lake and Max gatecrash the Merc party before sector 2 on the opening lap.

If the Merc pair can survive sector 1 they'll be gone. Sector 2 will be slower for most of the low downforce cars compared to 1 lap fuel adjusted pace as they'll be looking after their tyres which the merc with its higher downforce will do much better... if Bottas gets a good start will he try and get Lewis or will Merc ask them to hold for the 1st lap to protect the 1-2?

We’ve seen some big slipstream effects in the past, but then the merc is colossal on the straight and then with Hamilton under breaking. Hamilton needs to nail the start and first corner or he’ll have some work to do - hard to imagine anything but a merc winning though.

Another great F2 race today. Gutted for Nissany, but I think that incident was his mistake when it comes down to it. With so many good drivers in F2 right now, I'm wondering how there can possibly be enough F1 seats for the people who deserve them. We were talking a few races ago about Mick Schumacher being a bit meh, but he's started to pick up a lot of podiums lately: good stuff. Say what you will about Ticktum - he's undoubtably a knob - but keeping drivers who could go 3 or 4 seconds faster in clear air behind him for so long took real skill. He deserved to take points today.

Except in that way that he didn't deserve points, because he doesn't deserve to be allowed inside the same postcode as a racing car :p

Lewis really is next level isn’t he. That lap was just incredible. The car is great yes but it has to be driven. I have always been a fan of his and maybe in the last few years he has become a bit out there for his political approach to save the planet, black lives etc etc but you cannot deny he is the fastest race driver i think we have seen for many years. When you look back in time he used to eat his tyres up, he was to aggressive and had flaws. I agree with a post above he has learned from every team mate he has had and is now untouchable. I think Max is up there too he has lots to learn though i look forward to seeing him race more than most as you know he gives everything. The best all rounder right now is Lewis and he’s not a spring chicken I just cant see where he degrades for a good few years yet

It does make Rosberg look very fast too when you think but Lewis had Rosberg beaten mentally 75% of the time and the Championship Rosberg won was Lewis’s faulty car that did it.

I think Rosberg was very flattered by the car. He won his championship by resorting to dirty tricks both on the track and behind the scenes, he was driving at a time when no other team was competitive at all (we've since seen years where Red Bull and Ferrari put up much more of a fight), and in the end it was only Hamilton's poor car reliability that saw Rosberg scrape the WDC. Rosberg may have won a WDC, but he didn't beat Hamilton fair and square.

If he gets to 8 next year you could imagine him calling it a day. Max takes his seat in the merc. Bottas gets replaced with one of the upcoming drivers.
If he's still got it in him, and a capable car and team around him, why should he? Make it 10!
It'll be interesting to see if Toto leaves this year, and what effect that may have on the team and drivers..

Think Lewis will keep going as long as Merc have a competitive package. If the 2022 car isn't as good (unlikely you'd imagine but not impossible I guess) I could see him walk away at the end of that season. Think a lot of things depend on 2022, Max will want out of Red Bull if they don't come up with a good 2022 car as well and how long will Leclerc stand by Ferrari if they continue to be a basket case?

Russell will be in that Merc in 2022 imo one way or another probably for Bottas.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, I'm expecting this race to be another dishwater affair, but I love the Spa circuit and there have been some classic duels here in the past... But I also have a ~4 hour bike ride I really want to today.

I think the first lap will determine whether it’s an exciting race or not.

Any mention of rain other than the last 2 laps?

They'll be mentioning rain before they head off on the parade lap! Then at 5 laps intervals afterwards :p

The funniest was last race where they were showing the rain radar and the rain that blatantly missed the circuit while also conveniently hiding the ‘no rain expected’. At least brundle has become super sarcastic about it now - 20% of rain, so 80% chance it won’t rain then :p
