Not for 44 laps they didn’t.
They said something along the lines of “we agreed on the grid that you wouldn’t use that against him”. So they kind of did
I’m not saying that the team is favouring Hamilton but they were definitely limiting the tools that Bottas could use against him
When Lewis was saying he didn't want to sign his contract yet as he needed to know if Toto was staying...
that was a lie, Lewis was always going to stay at Mercedes,
what he actually ment was he wasn't going to sign until his very complient #2 driver Bottas signed first,
could you imagen if Lewis signed then Bottas said.. nah, i'm going to retire, then Mercedes started talks with the likes of Danny ric, Seb.. or even talked about poaching Max or Charles...

Yeah sure. I think the stat below would suggest Lewis isn’t too worried tbh.
Lewis became the first driver to finish in the points in 40 consecutive races in the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix, he's finished Top 9 in 73 of the last 74 races with 40 wins.
I hope Red Bull stick with him until the end of the season. Yes, he's crap and someone better should be in that seat, but Red Bull's mid-season changes are ridiculous. Bad for their drivers, and bad for them.
I'd rather see Gasly get a seat somewhere else. He's shown he has the talent; now go somewhere he can thrive away from the Bulls. Going back to the miserable Red Bull environment, against Max, is not going to help him succeed for the longterm.
I wonder what this stat would look like if you applied the current points system back in time? I guess probably not all that different given reliability.

Precisely. Mercedes are happy to let their drivers race; their not happy for them to risk the overall result in order to do it. They want them both to save their engines for the long term not squander it in a battle that doesn't get the team extra points. Bottas has to do it on equal terms.

Ok yeah, I think we’re saying the same thing. Team orders still limited Bottas in what he could do against Hamilton and yes it would have been the same if the positions were switched.
