NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

You need to also appreciate its GDDR6 system memory and a very fast PCI-E 4.0 SSD too. So things can be loaded and unloaded into the system memory very quickly, unlike the PC. Consoles will also use a more cutdown OS.
What I'm getting at is how much of the console vram will actually be available for graphics. I don't think it's as clearcut as is being out. We know exactly how much is available on a graphics card.....

Personally I think it's a subtle hint by Nvidia to push people towards the more expensive 3090
Well thats just daft. Because very VERY few people actually buy a £1000+ card. VERY few in the grand scheme of things. No point releasing a gimped 3080 that will be badly recived on the hope of selling more of a very niche product.

Probably around 10GB. Hence why the XSX has split memory 10GB and 6GB. Consoles have more refined, optimised OS but its still going to be in the multiple gigabytes as well as what is required for CPU etc.

A fast ssd will help somewhat if developers can utilise it properly. But it won't be much/anything meaningful in terms of reducing vram usage. More for other other benefits.

Because of the unified memory it can be flexibly allocated and also remember the consoles, are also using their very fast SSDs,to cache things. The problem is most PCs don't have anything that fast,so the equivalent PC port will need more VRAM.

I think 12 GB should be the absolute minimum. 3070 12 GB and 3080 16 GB would have been ideal.

I don't think that's unreasonable. The 3070 perf is supposed to match the 2080 Ti - an 11 GB card.

If the performance of the 2080 Ti justified 11 GB, then why should we suddenly believe that a 3070 only needs 8 GB for the same performance? It doesn't add up.

12GB should be the minimum for all new mainstream cards. the 3080 is a very expensive, high end card remember. It should be 16GB+ no doubt.

Yeah and for the people saying GDDR 6x is super expensive - well the 3060 and 3070 aren't even using it.

In particular the 3060 6GB for £400+ is a complete joke. Unless it's supposed to be a 1080p card. But then it would be £250 not £400...

For £400 it better be a 1440p card, and 6GB VRAM is a total joke.

e: We've had £250 8 GB cards since way back. The AMD 390 refresh cards had 8 GB, the 480/580, etc, etc. Meanwhile nVidia have stuck with 3GB/6GB at the same price points.

There is no doubt nVidia just are super stingy with VRAM.

Cool thanks. I'm interested in a 3090, but only for the price the 2080ti's retailed for.

If they paper launch or actually launch today how does that work with overclockers being closed on bank holiday?

i'd say the top card will start at a minimum of £1400 and for oc models close if not over 2k, the anouncement is tomorrow starting 5pm uk time for around 1hr

Availability is meant to be much later in September or even October depending on which model you're looking for.

Plus the RTX3090 is going to be rarer than a true statement from Donald Trump :D
