NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

The perf graph is (firstly its Nvidia graph so absulte best case) a raytracing only graph. 2x seems a lot. but 2x rubbish does not = great.
Also I kinda hoped minecraft and quake 2 wouldn't define graphics cards in 2020.

So a couple of questions that have probably been answered but im in a **** mood due to the below and thus i can't be ****** to look for them

I budget money quite strictly and don't like to deviate out of them. I had put £1500 to one side to order a 3090. Sadly one of the ways i put this money together aside from saving a little each week was selling a spare monitor on the members market. I have today found out that it has been smashed in transit and the courier is very unlikely to do anything about that. So i have refunded the buyer £160 that i have had to take out of my 3090 pot as to not mess with more important financial stuff. Hence the me not being happy.

I will be able to recover those funds by 13/9/20 so with that in mind.. Do we have any idea that indicates when pre orders will be up for the 3090 and secondly how little shelf stock will there be after those pre orders are put in. Am i going to need to wait a couple of months now to get my hands on one or should i still be able to get one relatively quickly?

Sorry for the rant it's been a **** month for me.

I thought the rumours said 4X the RT performance with DLSS though?? Its "only" 2X!

:p

It's a shovel full of MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! is what it is. Skewing the hype by using the extra Tensor cores. *slow clap* yes we knew that already Jen. Turing was crap at RT so we didn't expect any different.

I will be very interested to see RWP, however I suspect that reviewers will be told to use DLSS, then add that to the result. Which will mess up the results entirely.

*sigh*.

Was it not supposed to be 3-4x RTX performance going by the rumours though? :p

And you can bet your buttocks those will be best case scenarios too.

i was all for buying the 3080 at one point but now i dont think im going to bother. What have does me for gaming at 1440p with most games maxxed out giving 70-100fps so there is no need for me. Gonna be expensive anyhow.

Pre-orders will likely go up tomorrow if it's announced or shortly there after. But as usual its chaos, stocks will be sold out in seconds pre-order wise. Hopefully 3090 turns out to be cheaper than we expect :).

Because of the unified memory it can be flexibly allocated and also remember the consoles, are also using their very fast SSDs,to cache things. The problem is most PCs don't have anything that fast,so the equivalent PC port will need more VRAM.
But can't the PC use RAM like an old RAMdisk?

FS2020 Ideal Spec (top) is 8GB VRAM & 32GB RAM which seems lopsided. Is that the way things may go?

This is really annoying for me. I had been wanting to do a full upgrade two years ago, and for the first time in my life buy the best components - 1440p 144hz monitor, i7 9700k, 32gb DDR4, all SD drives etc. (I don't consider 9900k, Titan, 4k monitors to be worth it 2 years ago). I bought all of this and it's still a great system.

The remaining upgrade component was the GPU. I knew the 2000 series was coming and was ready to buy what would become the 2080 Ti - only I didn't once I seen the poor performance increase, unsupported RTX, and a stupid price tag.

I have therefore been waiting 2 years to fully complete my dream upgrade, and it seems I am again going to be left wanting again; either I buy a gimped 3080 or I pay way more money than I want for a 3090. I'm happy to pay up to £800 maybe £900 for what I want (seemingly a 3080 non-gimped), but Nvidia aren't selling it.

Old man rant over.
