NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

...8gb is very disappointing for the 3070. To have no bump in ram from the 1070 is mental.

I'm not sure how long 8gb will last due to the new consoles.

I really thought we would see at least 10gb, ideally 12gb on the 3070 and upwards.

Yeah but people will tell you for sure that a 3070 is a 1080p card so only needs 4GB RAM. :p

i guess the only saving grace for that card now is if it is cheap...

It’s the 10 Gb 3080 I’m worried about. I’m pretty sure the 3090 might be too rich for my tastes but I don’t want to spend a fair amount on a card that only has 10 Gb either. I might have to wait for a 3080 Ti unless the 3090 is ‘only’ around £1200.

"The GeForce RTX 3090, 3080 and 3070 represent the greatest GPU generational leap in the history of NVIDIA."

The bit they left out is the leap they are referring to is the price. :p

The gimped memory is official then! who is buying a 3070 with only 8GB like seriously. Im out this round. I eagerly await the 3080Ti.
Disappointing indeed. The price will have to reflect this.

I just might go for it if they have something like HBCC. All depends on price. If they price it well from day 1 I will pre order. If not will wait for around the time Cyberpunk is out and make a decision then as that is when I will be needing the grunt. My RX 580 plays all the games I got installed at the moment without a problem at 4K 60fps :D

Though I will try and go for a 16gb 3070 if possible as long as it is £50 or so more.

Yeh, i really thought 12gb would make a lot more sense for the 3070 and 3080...

Think i will either get one of the new consoles, or wait for the Ampere refresh with more ram.

Not going to put what is likely to be ~£500 into an 8gb card at this point.

For real?

Hope to get more for your money yes, be happy when you get more for your money yes, but to expect to get more for your money is indeed greedy. No one owes you free stuff mate, it's greedy not only just to ask for it but to expect it too.

Who said anything about free? and yes I'm deadly serious. When these companies have access to technology that allows them to build ever faster products, products that can also be cheaper to produce?

Why should consumers be happy with these companies pocketing the profit rather than passing it on to the consumers? You think that's greedy? I think you're massively over-simplifying the tech industry and it's customers in one complete miss-hit.

Haha well there you go then, *academics* say it's bad therefore it's bad. Nothing to do with some academics seething jealousy at the successful at all. A good read on this is Mises "The Anti-Capitalist mentality" to see why academics just can't stand capitalism.

Everyone in the world is greedy, such as the people wanting a huge GPU performance leap for less money. Capitalism is the system which makes greed work for all. Communism is the system where people's greed only works for the few.
I refute that. Some people have the intellect to be multi-millionaires but don't pursue that goal, because it doesn't interest them.

Some people dedicate themselves to altruism.

Others worship the $ and their idols are the rich and powerful.

Saying that all academics (or even all academics critical of the excesses of capitalism) are motivated by jealousy is a hell of a thing to say.

I'm saying they are human beings, with all the failures of human beings. Are you saying they are saints and their word is law?
