NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Anyone else think that the competitiveness of this generation may well signal that Nvidia know AMD have something that can go toe to toe brewing??

It would be quite the generational leap for AMD to match the performance of these cards if the performance really is that much better than Turing (in non RTX games without DLSS).

The point many of us have been making is that it was *Turing* that "changed the game up" (for worse). This lunch gets Nvidia back on track (and then some, maybe) from generational-progress standpoint.

Turing is the outlier.

But let’s keep the price ramped up...

AMD really have to bring something to the game if we want prices to settle at a more reasonable place.

RDR2 is one example.

I said needs dude. There is a big difference between that and what people want.

Back here in reality my three 20 series cards have not changed. They didn't grow warts and can still all run games easily at 1440p (my res of choice).

I can play RDR2 on either of the XB1X I have.

Jen is good at this. Making you think your existing card is a load of old rubbish and how you must sell it at a loss and rush out and buy his latest one. Why would I? I could sit here and bench every game I have (Which is totally different to the ones I actually play !) and smash my monitor's 144hz sync rate.

So Jen is doing every one a huge favour? or could it simply be a worried pre emptive strike against the upcoming consoles, which too target 4k 60. Only, the 3070 will be at its limits at 4k 60, due to the 8gb of VRAM. Meaning, the console for ever so slightly more is the better option. The 3080? still costs more than I reckon the entire console unit will cost, NVME, GPU, CPU and all.

All he has done is drop price to perf back down to Pascal and every one is losing their minds.

I don't want to sit and play my game collection at higher FPS. I really have no ambition to do so. Nothing in this release will make games better.

No, my wife will get the old card. She has the 2 1080tis so she'll appreciate it. Not only do I give the kid every toy known to man I provide the pc to the family at only 1 gen old specs lol *i'm better than you*

It's OK, we know how silly you feel... you don't need to drag it out, tear by tear. ;)

8k 60fps lol

consoles be shaking in their boots now

Yes because every one is silly I mean clever enough to rush out and spend 5 grand on a display.

He's doing what he always does. Pushing you to the next level even if you didn't want to go there.

Screw that. I will keep the 4k TVs I already had and just, you know? plug a console into them.

I must admit, I'm a little suspicious... however, if Nvidia know AMD have something going toe to toe then they seem to know more than AMD. The silence is deafening, which makes no sense.

So they've just rebranded everything down by 10 by the looks of it. 2060 replaced by 3070, 2070 replaced by 3080, 3080 replaced by 3090. So expect a ti equivalent in a few months probably.

Seems no one is talking about VRAM or DLSS now...

I don't play any of those games nor do I play at 4k. My questions are:

1) Are these all DLSS games and thus are we getting an accurate comparison?

2) Doesn't 4k increase the difference between graphics card since it's more GPU-intensive? So all those on 1440p or even 1080p should expect a lower performance increase?

I feel like people are being mislead here and assuming an 80% performance increase based on the DF video, when I fear that those of us (most) on 1440p and playing other games are going to see a significantly smaller boost.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is a good result in terms of a good performance increase at a sane price point, but let's try temper things...

wow the boat goes round and round here at oc uk

a few pages back people were backing funnof RTx3000 saying it will be too weak and now people are saying it offers too much performance!?? Wow you can't please people

It doesn't matter what comes out I buy for me every 2 years and my wife gets a free card. There's no such thing as buyers remorse when you earn *secret* working for *secret - would genuinely lose my job for boasting* due to covid-19.

There's obviously a gap for a 3080 Super/Ti. They may be holding it back until AMD announce something, just in case it beats a 3080. Either that or they're just repeating Pascal, waiting a few months then releasing it.

For months I was saying 3000 series will be slightly cheaper than 2000 series and everyone will think they are getting a bargain. Completely forgetting the massive ramp up on pricing only 1 gen before.

*shrug covid-19 means money is growing on trees in my medical sample testing industry. I'll be holding onto the 2080ti until the 3090 turns up and selling it for whatever, I don't care, money really doesn't mean anything to me at this point. Covid-19 has made me rich.
