NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I love reading post slike this based only on brand loyalty and dreams. To think AMd are going to "blow Nvidia out of the water" is an exercise in delusion. The best they can likely hope to do is provide performance in the same ball park at similar or cheaper price-points. If AMD had an Ampere-killer we would have seen controlled leaks before the Ampere launch in order to disrupt it. Their silence is not a good sign.

Saying that, I DO hope that AMD provide something competitive in the 3080 class and below... but considering this release has very strong price/performance then they are realistically going to be very hard-pressed.
Brand loyalty? I've not had an amd card since the legendary 9800 xt!

Brand loyalty would go out the window if AMD released something better than a 3080. I've always switched between the two but unfortunately Nvidia have had the lead in performance for at least 5 years.

Ok so here's my thinking...

Currently using a 1080Ti and looking at the 3080 with interest but concerned about a 3080Ti down the road.

Am thinking if I can grab a 3080 FE for £649 then I'll do that and be fully prepared to upgrade to a 3080Ti later. FE cards generally hold their value better than third party ones.

If I can't get an FE card then I might just sit tight for now and wait until next year for a 3080Ti. My card isn't exactly struggling right now, at least not until Cyberpunk shows up and beats it with the ugly stick!

Does this makes sense?

I'm in a similar position with my 2080. TBH, I'm trying to use common sense and compute in my tiny brain that there is currently no game I can't 4k/60 on my 2080 which I'm due to play. However my LG OLED and that HDMI 2.1.. and my thirst for more frames is making me think a couple of times over ;)

I think re-sale will be about the same on either AIB or FE so wouldn't worry too much about that. Also, what will make us need to upgrade the 3080 to anything more? Is the 3080 then obsolete when the 3080ti comes along?

Im curious how come you want to upgrade from a 1080Ti; is it to have RTX and play at higher resolutions with better FPS?
I know you're not asking me but I have a 1080ti and a 7700k at 4.9 and I'm debating a complete new build and going for the 3090. My main reason is I stream on a single PC setup. I have no issues with quality or performance on the game I stream, however with people want me to stream Cyberpunk and I'm somewhat worried I'm going to have to run the game on low settings or not be able to stream it. For me though I'm at a bit of a dilemma, Cyberpunk is out soon and I want to be ready for it however I'm really concerned over the whole PCIe3 / 4 stuff and waiting until next year when the 11th gen Intel chips come out.

Will be very interesting of AMD release a card which matches or exceeds the 3080 BUT with more VRAM and maybe slightly less or less RT performance.

Yeah but which well informed PC owner will pay that price? Plenty of" know nowts" about... But even they read the news eventually.. Expect the price to drop further, rather quickly as sellers, start competing to sell their card ahead of each other.

Seen cheaper £500 with best offer... Will drop further.

Well nobody who is informed, I'm keeping an eye on it just out of interest, £560 was the lowest I saw after a 5 minute look-though, not surprised there's been lower. I'm amazed how many are up for sale given these were bought almost exclusively by in the know enthusiasts.

Assuming the 3070 benches as well as NV claim it performs, what's a 2nd hand 280ti actually worth?

Spending that much money on a GPU, why don't you just wait for Cyperpunk to come out and check the benches? Seems like a lot of cash to waste on a new rig for one game.

Cooler and quieter, probably. For all Nvidia's fancy cooler design, it's still a relatively small card with relatively small heatsinks. It's unlikely to compete with the three-slot behemoths on acoustics and thermals.

Also whats NVDIAa's warranty policy compared to the likes of ZOTAC?

Does anyone rate MSI cards? Because for me this is the best looker and a decent price.

Those look like Nvlink SLI connectors to me.
