NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Very difficult times.
Let's say I buy the 3090.
My CPU supports PCIx 4.0 but my motherboard is x470 and doesn't support it. Then I'll have to buy a x570.
My new GPU will then arrive and my case will shrink at the absolute unit of a GPU and I'll have to buy a new case. Then I install everything and system won't boot because even though my PSU is 750W, it's also 5-6 years old so it says no to the new monster in my brand new case.

And then I realize that £2000 just got snapped from existence. :D

How much warning/heads up did we get prior to the super line being launched?

Not too much, but there was some. Plus now we know this is coming. More than enough to sell off a GPU ahead of time anyway, the second-hand market is a bit slow to react in general & not entirely informed. Think I might ride it out for all 2 years though, and sell just before Hopper hits. Things shouldn't change too drastically during that time.

Should be OK with a 3080.

It's the people who are asking whether a 650W is enough for a 3080.

All I know is, I wouldn't want to run one with it, not when Nvidia recommends a 750W.

You must realise there's a WORLD of difference between a top tier Platinum rated 650W PSU and a bargain Bronze 750W? There's no question which one anybody who knows the difference would rather use!

Will you be releasing a Hybrid card GIGA-Man?

if not what is your warranty policy on removing the stock cooler?

Hybrid!? Do you mean AIO or Water block version? If so, we've done it for the other cards, it's more than possible we'll not change tactics ;-)

As a community here shouldn’t we know that if a GPU product is in short supply it is a red flag that something is amiss? That it’s possible that these new GPUs are a “short run” for what the nvidia may release later on! Yes, it’s speculating but it’s part of thinking ahead.

Is this not a repeat of the Turing release in some regards?

It's the difference between "what you can get away with, if you're lucky" and "what would be sensible".

850W would be sensible for 3080 buyers.

A lot of those 650W PSUs will be getting on a bit too...

Seems like a risky game of chicken. Good luck which ever way you choose to go.

Yeh, I've mentioned a couple of times here, never skimp on a PSU.

Given how much bigger the FE 3090 cooler system is, do people think it will be quiter than the FE 3080 if both are run at stock, no overclock?

Noob question :(

Will my 650w Corsair VS support the 3080 connections? I know it's fairly tight in terms of wattage.

The fe is meant to come with 2x8 pin to a 12 pin adaptor, so will fit, whether that's enough psu or not to power it is another question.
