NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

What actually happens when VRAM is full up, wont the extra speed actually negate any issues with "only" 10GB VRAM?

It moves onto the next best thing which is system ram followed by performance issues, slowdowns stuttering etc. Hence at one point the gtx 970 had such issues with 3.5gb vram.

I wasn’t really looking to upgrade from my 1080 this year and was going to get a ps5 but I’m really tempted by the 3080. Nvidia have done really well with the pricing on these which is making me consider this instead of the ps5.

It has heatpipes as well, Seems to be a lot of surface area for cooling.

Wonder how this is gonna fair on a vertical mount? Suppose it wouldn't be so bad in a lian li o11d with the side mounted fans using a vertical mount.

Have FE models ever cooled better than AIB cards? Has always been the case that the third party options do a better job in this regard, and the only reason to get an FE is if you're taking the cooler off and fitting a water block.

The 1080Ti etc were faster clock per clock than aftemarket (tech powerup/extremesystems ocforums, I like many gave up on the Aftermarket bios and went back to FE bios (also lost 1000rpm on fan from FE bios) could hit 2100mhz on its own bios and not as close on the 20-40% high limit bioses.

As a community here shouldn’t we know that if a GPU product is in short supply it is a red flag that something is amiss? That it’s possible that these new GPUs are a “short run” for what the nvidia may release later on! Yes, it’s speculating but it’s part of thinking ahead.

Is this not a repeat of the Turing release in some regards?

Interesting theory. However, i don't see how this make sense for Nvidia. Assuming "later on" is less than 6 months

Depends on the distance you have between the back of the card and the motherboard, if it's close i'd just stay horizontal.

Judging by how it is now in mine, i would say fairly close... actually thinking about it, it wouldn't be good at all since the fan would fan would blow hot air directly onto the board...

That picture shows the card the wrong way round, and it is blowing hot air into the CPU cooler... weird!

Think they just put the fan on top for illustration purposes, otherwise it looks like airs being pulled in there for no reason.

Am I the only one looking at this release thinking it doesn't actually look that good given the limited performance metrics they have given us?

It also depends on just how hot the air is, i mentioned before that an open air cooler like triple fan dumps all the heat into the case, this is using the same kind of fans (axial) but configured so one is an exhaust and only one fan is putting warm air into the case. So overall it's not going to put as much heat into your case. I think this was tested on LTT and the difference between blower fans and open air was around 5c tops, so not as much as you would think.

No, you're not the only one waiting to see more numbers. With the hype train fully rolling saying anything against the flow is meerly shouting into the wind.

Same happens for any AIB card where heat is exhausted into the case.

Nice design having some heat immediately vented out and some vented into the case.

Yes, your not alone. Apart from coming back down to earth with their pricing, everything else is a bit errr beguiling graphs.

Curious to know how third party coolers perform compared to the Nvidia one. I'd also love to see a 3090 sized cooler on the 3080!
