NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Wait for BIG NAVI before taking a plunge on these cards.

it is best to have all the cards delt first before making a buying decision.
I am happy with my Vega 56 but will likely end up on a 3 series card at some point. Performance and price is one thing for AMD but how are they going to compete on features? I normally don't care for extra features that I would probably never use (e.g. Ansel) but nVIDIA are making a really compelling case to buy their cards on the features alone. Keen to see what AMD have, guessing it won't be a slouch.

Do we think Asus might put the 3080 ROG up another £50 to £900? me personally think at £850 they have shot themselves in the foot with that one.. Unless other move to £800??

I wonder if Nvidia will allow 10bit output now for the 30 series over hdmi 2.1

If not this limits the amount of displays which can take advantage of hdmi 2.1 at 10bit as some devices and avrs only have 40gbps ports

Anyone know how much of an upgrade the 3090 will be over this?

Will it run Dwarf Fortress with RTX?

Thats the key. If AMD is another damp squid then the Ti wont be out until next year. If AMD delivers then Nvidia know they already have the fastest card with the 3090 (nobody is expecting the Big Navi to beat a 3090) and they can bring out a 16/20Gb 3080ti between the 3080 and 3090 and have it beat the BIg Navi (just) and priced accordingly between the 3080 and the 3090.

So IMO, whether we see a Ti this year or next year all depends on AMD now.
The 3090 is expected to be only 20% faster than the 3080 given the suspicious lack of comparison between the two and based on the core count. If the Ti comes out that would make the 3090 almost redundant.

Pretty sure they have insider knowledge on what AMD can offer so the 3080ti won't come for a year or so.

Which is what happened to the Titan when the 1080ti came out..................

That's what I'm contemplating.

But the issue is the 3070 doesn't offer next gen performance. Plus, I'm quite sure as time goes buy those games will get more and more demanding.

We need benchmarks.
But you can't benchmark games that don't exist yet.

There was a video in this thread a while back which showed reducing the graphics level from Ultra down to Very High significantly reduced VRAM usage and increased frame rates.

I thought Ultra setting was for benchmarking and Very High setting was used for actually playing the game as there can hardly any or no difference visually.

Also a PC game normally allows lots of graphics settings to tweak that the consoles don't offer.

Same, Vega 64 was a great card, but sold it off for getting on-board for the new DX12_2 features. Not really willing to wait around for AMD to maybe show something.

They have confirmed this and they will allow 10bit.
