3090 not going to overclock well? (data from techpowerup)

I may well be interpreting this incorrectly but I see https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/galax-rtx-3090-ex-gamer-white-1-click-oc.b7974 have listed some clock speeds for "overclocked" cards and they have barely a 30-50Mhz increase over base. When compared with some of the 2080ti cards which had overclock editions with figures in the ballpark of 100-200Mhz increase in the box..

Does this mean it may not overclock very well? Obviously will have to see how reviews go but I'm interested to hear what others think on this. If so imo makes the founders edition more attractive.

Cheers!

Its not a OC version/marketing model of a GPU aimed at gamers primarily and I bet it will OC well above 50mhz using AB even without touching the voltage slider.

And no two cards will run 100% the same (clocks/temp/fan/power limit) due to the way GPU Boost 3 or 4+ works.

Not true but depends whether your talking about reference cards or aftermarket cards.

I cannot get +10 MHz out of my Zotac 1080ti amp extreme so while your statement about not 2 cards are the same is correct the statement about guaranteeing 100-200 MHz + is nowhere near feasible or guaranteed.

What is possible is that Nvidia has limited the max clocks via bios so they can release the Ti versions at faster clocks later on.

Where did I guarantee 100-200mhz ?, you know it is classed as an overclock about the default Nvidia stock boost not on top of the OC already added by vendors OC models.

1080Ti clock "1481 MHz, which can be boosted up to 1582 MHz"

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-spe...GPU is operating at,: 1x HDMI, 3x DisplayPort.

My 1080Ti FE ran 2100mhz all day long, so does my Titan Xp FE (not Starwars) and I mean in games and in Heaven/Valley so your card must have been a bad one to not get 10-20 extra over what they maxed it at.

This is not the first time I have read this about the AMP series.

The 3090 is the Titan replacement though, they've never been restricted.
Wait I got titan and its restricted... Cant put more volts or remove TDP limit... One odf things i hate is that they LOCKED bioses both AMD an NV..... Cant play around..... I got cooling power anmd gpui power cant push hardware more...

Remember the new 780Ti 3GB vs "wait on the" Titan Black 6GB releasing , then it turned out they would volt lock the later (not sure if that ever changed).

Oh, I didn't realise they did that. I was aware Titan's were always full fat chips, but I didn't realise they restricted voltage. Is yours a Nvidia or after market one?

Guess You dont know Titan only comes from Nvidia.... Oveclocking is limited to sliders all max right and thats it... I would love to have TDP removal option. Man miss 980ti and editing bioss and removing tdp. Had that beast draw 500 YES 500w in furmark temps maxed at 65 with my cooling :D

Most of the OC models seem to have fairly conservative overclocks and/or TBC - given the Samsung 8nm process is pushing the limits of DUV I suspect there isn't a lot of headroom.

Im sure there will be as much OC headroom as on Fury X cards :D

whats the point of overclocking a 3090 when its already a powerhouse

Do u see people chipping their cars when they buy a Bugatti or Koenigsegg's

Remember "we are moving from atoms to photons" (Jensen Huang) so no OC needed

Point is I even overclocked my ******* phone cause You are on OVERCLOCKERS forum thing the name should give away what we do here... My car was stock 2 weeks spend 550 quid on remap for 10hp gain I overclocked everything i can think of even modified my freaking OVEN in kitchen not joking. I modify everything I own that's for me most fun part of buing NEW things see what I can do to/with it.

You think most of people buyng Titans ect actually Game on them things ?? :D

So when are the benchmarks coming out does anyone know? Or it on release/preorder day only so you've already made your decision based solely on Nvidia marketing?
Been said many times revioews ect comuing out on Lunch date. We just got moneyu to burn I was waiting for upgrade 4 years... Cause Turding was not worth it. Maybe spending 10 hours a week gaming nowadays just want new toys :D

If you can move the Voltage and Power sliders then it is not locked, not having an addition 20-40% is what you are getting at and that was rare without a modded Bios.

EVGA did give an additional 20-30% (over and above the sliders max limit) once a few gens ago on certain cards via a new Bios.
