There is no decent upgrade path for 1080ti owners yet

Hopefully that is the case, that's usually the only time I upgrade when the next is at least twice as fast.

That's my mantra too.

Double GPU performance so 3080 is on the cards.

Already had a 6 core CPU for 4 years so now going 12 core :)

Might as well get 32GB RAM too even though 16GB is still plenty.

I'm really interested in it too just the ram putting me off but yes if it's twice as fast as the 1080ti it's hard to leave at these prices lol.

I've got 32gb ram but to be honest the only time I've ever seen it go over 16gb with gaming was Star citizen but yeah handy to have.

You'll see a nice jump in performance getting a 12 core with hyperthreading for sure, I upgraded from a 6700k to the 9700k but there's no hyperthreading I hope this isn't going to be a problem either, I do have all 8 cores running at 5ghz so I'm hoping it won't be a bottleneck for the 3080.

The 3080 is going to be over twice as fast as the 1080Ti regardless VRAM.
DF have one and they say its 70-90% faster.

I agree and I'm not upgrading to the 3080. 10gb is just not enough for a card I plan to keep for 3-4 years. I want 2x peformance for £600 but preferably £500 as I feel I spent on my 1080ti a bit more money than I wanted.

that is compared to 2080, which is ~10% faster than the 1080Ti in modern titles/drivers. Perhaps my “over” twice as fast is a bit optimistic lol. Certainly in some titles.

We all be hooked into a VR oasis with a spike in the bases of our skulls.

'still no upgrade from 1080Ti Mavis'

Just because a game fills up your VRAM doesnt mean it actually needs it. I’ve been on a 2080 this whole gen playing at 4K 60 HDR on my OLED and 3440x1440 120 hz monitor and not once have i had an issue with running out of VRAM like back on the 970 ( which stuttered once you reached the limit).

In regards to the consoles having 16gb ram, I’m not sure why people keep bringing it up. That’s the whole shared system ram. If you’d use 10gb as vram and 1gb for OS.. you’d be left with only
5gb ram for the rest of the things going on in the game which is already low. Surely that would mean gimping in other areas so in other words using more than 10gb vram seems extremely improbable.

I see the 3080 is good upgrade path from the 1080Ti. It's on my list but depends on reviews and if AMD have anything to release soon.

I sold my Vive VR + Deluxe headband + Wireless adapter to fund the next GPU.

I will get back into VR when Elon releases the neural link VR edition :)

Maybe “over” twice as fast is optimistic, but with DLSS it isn’t... that feature will get harder to ignore as an “edge case” as time goes on.
so take the number of games supporting DLSS 2 (cos v1 was crap) and divide it by the number of popular games played today (use steam stats or Twitch as a sample size) and tell me DLSS its not an edge case.

a 3080 is not twice as fast as a 1080Ti by any reasonable measure, wish it was btw not saying its a bad GPU choice either

Think I will be keeping my 1080ti a little bit longer. I am tempted by a 3080 but I just dont think I actually 'need' to upgrade yet.

My card is now pretty much silent and never goes above 50 deg since fitting the Kraken G12 with the X52 240mm AIO. Im pretty much maxing out my LG 144hz monitor on the games I play at in most cases max or close to max settings at 1440p.

It seems it would be a pretty big chunk of cash to ensure that all my games always have a min framerate of 144.

As much as i love to waste money on buying new stuff, im going to sit back until a game I love that doesnt run the way I want forces my hand.

It's obvious Nvidia want impatient people like me who can't wait for the 3080ti to buy the 3090 instead.
I really don't want to have to double dip with the 3080 now and then the 3080ti when that comes out. Might as well get the 3090. Arghhh
