NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Right. Mind made up*, I'm saving pennies and getting a 3080. As others have rightly pointed out, assuming the same price brackets, probably be able to upgrade in 2 years and still be under the 3090 cost.

*subject to 3090 benchmarks showing poor comparative price/performance

Now hurry up AMD and launch Zen3.

I'm sure I'll be gimping the 3080 am going to buy by putting it in a B450 with a Ryzen 3600 but I plan on upgrading to a new Ryzen, when they are released, or buy a used 3900X and a new Mobo.

I'll be pairing 3600 with 3080 as well initially, but plan on getting 4000 series 8 core chip upon release.

1700X on X370 here, also waiting for zen3. I'll get a PCIe4.0 NVME at the same time.

New PSU and 3080 now. CPU, mobo and NVME later.

G2 at some point when they are readily available.

Sigh money....

Same here, but I will get a 4900x 12 core for peanuts once the 5000 Ryzen is out :)

At 4K my 3600 does not even break a sweat so no rush.

Any prices yet for the 3080 Hydro Copper or similar?

EK have just announced (3 hours ago) their full cover blocks!
https://www.ekwb.com/shop/quantum/gpu-cooling/gpu-water-blocks/geforce-rtx-30x0-series

EUR ~130-150

Just seen this but on EK website it says:
  • This block is made for reference PCB 3080 and 3090 cards. Founders Edition does NOT have a reference PCB.
Really confused on what is actually a reference card this time? The Founders are the only ones on the Nvidia site and the AIB's all seem to be different sizes?

Maybe the triangular cut out on the FE cards isn't reference? How strange.

Do you know better, if so please share! :)

No. I'm just saying I know better than to 100% believe what nVidia marketing team say - I mean it's not like they're going to come out right now and say "Intel guys are going to get a bum deal on this one". Only the benchmarks will truly* confirm whether there are any bandwidth issues.

*By truly, I mean the usual nonsense about on-paper performance rather than translatable real-world difference.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but it looks like the usb-c connector has been dropped on the new cards.

I don't think video out throught the USB has ever worked, but having a 10 gbps capable data port does a lot to add to a board's IO capabilities. Especially older boards.

bar lots of people use it to drive monitors from laptops and other devices...

They have the reference boards for 3080 and 3090 on their config tool. But no blocks linked with them at the moment.

So I didn't sell my 2080ti before the announcement, but I did at least manage to lock in a CEX trade in for £500 just afterwards. I have ten days to get it to them to keep that price.

Question is, how reliably am I going to be able to get hold of a 3080 on release day? Do I pack my 2080ti up and post it off on the 9th assuming I'll only be without something for a week, or do I wait until I have a 3080 in my hands before I sell the old card for whatever it's then worth. Need some info on stock levels really - I've seen the rumours...
