NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Just seen this but on EK website it says:
  • This block is made for reference PCB 3080 and 3090 cards. Founders Edition does NOT have a reference PCB.
Really confused on what is actually a reference card this time? The Founders are the only ones on the Nvidia site and the AIB's all seem to be different sizes?

Wow i didn't even spot that, how weird! From experience all founders cards are reference models as they are made directly by nvidia using the ref pcb. If this isn't then what is?! Is there any design coming from nvidia? Wtf im so confused...

Need some info on stock levels really - I've seen the rumours...

Don't think anything will get said on stock levels to be honest... Might just need to be at your pc bang on 2pm on the 17th sept and hope the website holds up to get your order in. Have a backup site just incase.

So I didn't sell my 2080ti before the announcement, but I did at least manage to lock in a CEX trade in for £500 just afterwards. I have ten days to get it to them to keep that price.

Question is, how reliably am I going to be able to get hold of a 3080 on release day? Do I pack my 2080ti up and post it off on the 9th assuming I'll only be without something for a week, or do I wait until I have a 3080 in my hands before I sell the old card for whatever it's then worth. I would still sell it at that price and sacrifice a few days/weeks of gaming in case the 3080 has stock issues. If you've got an IGP you could still game at lower settings?

No, I'm Ryzen so no IGP. I can manage for a week or so no issue, I just don't want to get caught with no GPU at all and no likelihood of getting one for months on end if the 17th goes crazy. That said I could probably pick up another 2080ti for £400 by then.......

Also, wondering when the orders go live on the Nvidia site. I wonder if it is 2pm across the board.

Technically the reference PCB is the design given to the AIBs who then either adopt it exactly or create their own design based off it. The FE will be nVidia's own design that might or might not be exactly the same as the reference PCB but will use the same design rules.

Same with a lot of electronic components like the chip used as a DAC in many devices - the whitepaper will have a reference circuit which gets it working and sets out best practises for implementation but doesn't encompass all options, etc.

I would ideally like to pick a card on OCUK and put a block on it. Just trying to find one that is suitable. Be quite interested in the slightly cheaper Asus or EVGA 3090 as long as EK do a block for it.

That in no way helps consumers though who just want to slap a block on the card, we dont even know which card to get now if EK hasn't made it clear which card it will fit. I know theres no official release yet but come on!

Isn't there some EU free movement of goods law that effectively forces them to ship to Ireland?

Not as far as I know, a seller can choose who they want to sell to.
Lately they only ship to the UK, and Portugal of all places.

We'll see how it goes, worst case I need to use a parcel forwarding company, and pay some extra insurance on the package this time round.

Sorry i dont understand. The 1080 came out in 2016 for $699, the 980 came out in 2014 for $599 and the 970TI in 2013 for $699. The 3080 is now released at $699 (£649) with a 60 to 70% performance gain in non RT games at 4k, so i cannot see massive price increases over the last 3 generations but i do see huge performance gains

I brought the 780 and then 980 at release for £450 & £440 accordingly from Overclockers. The 1080 I brought a couple at £529 for other people's builds I've done (not fe model).

So that price increase from those three is between £110 to £210 over what the previous 80 series cards were able to be brought at on release.

The 2080 made the jump to £699 and this gen is similar at £649 for the 3080or £639 (non fe) so that is the visible difference in pricing I'm seeing.

The 980ti had the £649 retail price at release too. These cards are coming out as I said at exactly the same RRP as the previous gen which everyone was slamming Nvidia for but now praising. It's mental and shows how used to stupid prices people have got over the last two years!
