I've always been filling the sink up and hand washing, we have a dishwasher but I've never turned it on in the 3 years we've lift in this flat.

Is it going to be more energy efficient to use this?

Does it use hot water from the water tank or do its own heating?

Modern dishwashers are meant to be more efficient and use less water than hand washing. It'll just take cold water in and heat what it needs.

I can't believe you've got one and not used it for three years such a great labour saving device :o

This sounds like I'm going to have an exciting time with the dishwasher, screw the RTX3080 might just spend money in dish washer accessories.

Its only more efficient if you run the dishwasher full. Run it half empty then it's worse i think.

I think I worked out once that our dishwasher used about one unit of power to do a full load. A few years back that would have been about 11p, though I think it's nearer 17p now. Even if you include washer/salt/rinse aid, and water if you're on a meter, that's far more efficient and cheaper than you can manage in a sink.

Deffo going to cramp this dish washer as full as possible and run it when I go to sleep. Hopefully the leccy doesn't change it'll be like paradise seeing no dirty cutlery in the kitchen, I'll be able to clean the kitchen tops properly for once.

Yeah, you definitely have to fill it, as it's more efficient that way. It uses the same power to clean a full dishwasher as one that's half empty. When we were on Economy 7, I'd just set it to start however many hours later to get it into the night time tariff, then to switch itself off and not beep when it was done. Get up the next day, and everything in there was clean.

It's one of those things you think you don't really need - until you've got one, and then you never want to be without. I just chuck pretty much everything in there, and it stops dirty dishes lingering around the sink. Stuff goes straight in the dishwasher from the table/cooking, and then back out into the cupboards without hanging about on the worktops.

Washing dishes is actually a good pair-bonding task - one washes, the other dries and puts away. I live alone and the dishwasher is a godsend.

BTW don't put silver or silver plate in the dishwasher if you use salt in it.

Dunno what kind of Disney cartoon life you're living, but it doesn't work that way in our house! There's a reason we have a "only one of us cooking in the kitchen at the same time" rule.

Dishwashers are worth it IMO, our first house we didn't have one for I dunno perhaps the first 9 months or so but very glad we got one.
Now we have kids it's even more useful, it's usually on at least once a day.
Generally when I do wash up glasses etc by hand I find there is a risk I won't get it as clean as a dishwasher.

Don't forget there's a bunch of washing up to do anyway that doesn't go in the dishwasher, so it's not as though you are doing away with handwashing altogether if you like it for some reason

In our house what actually happened was one washes, the other criticises the completeness of the washing and returns half the items to be washed again. Arguments ensue, followed by angry silence and sleeping on the sofa.

Dishwashers are great for marriages. :p

I never cared about dishwashers until I was in a rented place with one and now I don't have access to one, i miss it severely! Can't wait to have one back!

Only thing I have a problem with, and it's more my partners problem which in turn becomes my problem, is when they make the plates a bit squeaky
