NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

[/QUOTE]
Interesting tweets by Hardware Unboxed today. I’ll be waiting for the reviews before I decide whether to buy a 3080 as I just don’t trust Nvidia’s likely cherrypicked figures. Stumping up 650 without some independent analysis would be bonkers

same goes for people thinking of selling their rtx2000 cards for cheap right now. Just waist for reviews and prices because right now you're basing your value on Nvidias cherry picking and there a very high chance the cards are not as fast as Nvidia claims

Not sure I care about RT though...

Even with RT disabled the 1080Ti is not going to be strong at 4k or even 2 or 3k in newer games. If people want to keep it and maximise their investment then fine, but lets not pretend it's now still a top-tier card and it lacks support for the latest features.

Unless there are SEVERE Ampere stock shortages that make them impossible to get hold for weeks of then the 2x00 series will only drop in value as time goes on, but clearly the cheaper the card in the first place then the lower the impact. Anyone with half a brain sold them weeks ago.

I'd happily buy a 1080ti for the right price.

Probably £200 ish.

You don't want to be buying a Pascal or older card now. Or for that matter an RDNA1 card or older.

If you are buying second hand, 2070 Supers will come down a lot in price if Nvidia's performance figures are true. I would buy one of those, especially if you keep your GPU for a few years.

It's not about RT, It's about Direct X 12 Ultimate and all the features that brings.

Yeah so far but its early days yet. Not all of the overclocked AIB have given out their overclocks yet but that would imply if they all stay this low that the 3080 are about at their limits as standard and there will be very very little to be gained from an all singing all dancing AIB super board.

interesting to know ... i wonder what asus are doing to the rog strix then :D

Well so far there are no signs of anybody offering 200Mhz to the boost speed like they did with the 2080ti. But early days.

Plus remember, even with the basic OC card Asus adds 48% to the base price of the 3080. If they have an extreme overclocked card then I can see that getting closer to £1000.

re 1) Yes, because it doesn't go over the limit too hard & it has enough bandwidth to compensate. Remember, there's a big difference between going 0.5-1GB over the limit, and going 2 GB or more over the limit. The more you have to tax the storage & RAM, the worse the experience will then be. It's not an on/off situation where it's either a complete mess or perfect. There's steps in between.
Plus, the 1% lows aren't enough, you really need a frametime graph ideally. Like how computerbase does it.

See what I mean? The problem is when the swap happens, not for 100% of the time. So you'll definitely notice it during gameplay, but it might not appear as severely in 1% lows and the like (or averages for that matter).

2) Okay?
Did they test with lower resolutions etc to see if they get different results?

Thanks. When I do it, I'll set it at somewhere around that. I always end up every generation just buying a new GPU and putting my old one in a box and in the loft... Never smart. :D

Now my question is do I upgrade this month, or shall I just wait for the Cyberpunk benchmarks first (the main reason and the only upcoming game which will really test the 3080).
